after bath routine

edited February 2012 in First time moms
I'm wondering what's your after bath routine. My lo does fine while in the bath..he enjoys it. As soon as he's out he cries fights sleep doesn't like being lotioned and I can barely getting him dressed.
How am I supposed to give him a massage with his night time lotion Haha I barely have time to put any and dress him and pick him up as he is screaming
I do warm the room, warm his towel and make sure he isn't hungry.
I woukd like to get him used to a nice lotion massage after baths so he can relax

  • Try keeping the towel on the parts you haven't put lotion on and try putting his clothes on the part you put lotion on. my daughter was the same way cause she hated being cold
  • How old is he? my son did that for awhile then he stopped crying around I think 2 months or so I just started talking to him more and singing and I also wrapped him up then hold him for a bit before I start drying his off completley and I left his head for last aftet he was clothed and stuff cuz he hates when I dry his head

  • I had same thing so more I do her bath time after her evening nap. Because I noticed the bath was actually making my lo more awake.
  • I did the same, during the day bc my son seemed to wake up more. Then at night I'd do the lavender lotion at night, no bath. It'll still calm him/her down. You can still lotion after the bath but I'd use reg baby lotion not the calming stuff.
  • He is 13 weeks, ill have to try and hold him a little longer. I agree with baths waking them up. He does relax during the bath and gets really sleepy eyed but when he's out and by the time he is ready and dressed he gets so cranky and then we begin the sleep fight for at least one hr
I really thought it was just my baby Haha cause all I hear is babies falling asleep after baths
  • I give my lo a warm bath. Then I take him to his room where its warm and the lights are dim. I keep the parts I haven't lotioned covered up, then cover the lotioned parts to do the rest. Then I get him dressed, comb his hair, clean his gums, then pick him up. All this while I softly talk to him. Then we read Goodnight Moon, I feed him and put him in bed
  • Lilly is 6 months and from day 9 (when she came home from nicu lol) we have this routine.. 7 pm she gets a bath with classical music in the bathroom, then wrapped up in her towel and held for a few minutes, then we go to her changing table and daddy makes her bottle and gets her blankets ready for bed and night light turned on while I do lotion, brush her gums, trim fingernails if needed, suck out buggers if needed, brush hair and jammies. We count to 60 when we brush her teeth, abc while she gets lotion, and sing 'true colors' during the rest (I love that song lol). Then we come out to the living room, daddy says good night and 7:45 she's ready for her bottle and falls asleep nursing. She sleeps till about 3am..6 oz bottle..then back to bed till about 7am. She does really well and seems to like knowing what to expect next :) good luck, sorry its so long but hopefully it will help! Good luck momma!!
  • My lo loves bath time so I have no ideas for you. Bump!
  • But I do give her a bath during the day, every other day. And lotion every day if not twice a day.
