I tried it with my first baby twice. The first time nothing happened the second time I got horrible diarrhea but I had a coworker use it with three of her children and she was in labor by that night.
I've talked to my dr. And im gonna be 38 weeks in few days. I've been miserable and just want this over. I've had cramping but thought this would speed things up. I don't plan on taking a lot bc it was gross lol
I used it with my first. Threw up then had diarrhea for hours. I did go into labor the next day. My son also went to the bathroom and had to be on antibiotics after he was born. Please don't take anymore....just let it happen.
All it does is dehydrate you to cause your body to expel the baby because its under dire circumstances. Not safe, not a good idea, sorry you were misinformed.
I tried it,..and it had me going all night and the next day...still induced 2weeks later..but labor was smooth its like it helped her slide out veeery easy I figured the oil was y
ok in nursing school thisnwas my research paper during OB. I cpntacted 409 dr's. 314 being high risk specalist. 1. No castor oil won't help u go into labor. And 2. It will not CAUSE the baby to go "to the bathroom" or have a bowel movement. That is a myth. Pretty much all it will do is guarentee u won't hqve a bowel movement during labor bcoz u will be cleaned out. Every dr told me the only time a baby will have a bowel movement while inside is if they are past due. It annoys me hearing that it will cause meconium aspiration
@ashleyr0512 thank you for this post. I have heard many people doing this I just thought id give it a try. I've been so miserable & im considered full term so why not ya know. Good I want my system cleaned out before labor!! Lol thanks again for your reply
I think I maybe should have clarified. There are several peer reviewed papers investigating a connection between meconium and a variety of induction techniques. It appears the breakdown metabolites of castor oil are of.concern. It is not that your baby will definitely have a bowel movement, but the connection exists or at least has been identified. It might not necessarily be cause and effect since there is also a connection with overdue babies and merconium - but since there exists speculation, I was just warning.
I have a PhD in biology and my husband is a doctor. Neither of us specialize in OB - but I am educated enough to understand the papers. Of course there are conflicting results - I just meant to be careful. I don't want to see anyone's baby hurt and am not really a fan of self-medicating without knowing the potential consequences.
