When are you stopping sterilising?

Just curious... Over here the guidance is 6 months, when they're on finger foods. Evies only 5 months and Im not introducing food for another coupla weeks so she probably wont be on finger foods for quite a while yet though, so I may carry on sterilising a few months yet. When do you plan to stop or at what age did you stop sterilising baby's bottles?

    @mom2ING Yeah I think thats the right kinda time too, I just dont feel comfortable with 'next month' even though the health visitor said its fine.

    I never did with either of my children except for initial use. Just washed in hot, soapy water :)

    Like for paci's / bottles and chew toys and what not I sterilized until they were done using them.

    @mom2Ing oh definitely! different strokes for different folks, i cant imagine not doing it, but it obviously works fine for some mama's.

    Because in a normal, healthy baby sterilizing isn't necessary. Washing in hot water and soap accomplishes the same thing.

    I also dont sanitize, i did when i first bought the bottles, but as far as toys and everything nope, dog licks it, just the same as the dog licking her face. She hasn't gotten sick once, i think over sanitising doesn't help the child build immunities, but thats just my opinion

    I agree with @captivated I dont sterilize aadyns bottles (it says on the back of the bottle package NOT to after initial use). Also, my pediatrician said it wasnt necessary. I dont boil a cup after I use it, so I see no reason to boil bottles everytime. Although, as soon as he finishes his bottle, I clean it immediately & it never sits. I understand why some people choose to sterilize though. I did it with my first son for 6 months.

    Huh. I didn't know there was a point to not sterilize. After I wash bottles, I boil them, and I do her paci every week or so? This is why I love pregly. Always learn something new! :)

    @natashalynn I dont think there is or isnt a point to stop. Some mothers do it the entire time, some stop after a few months.(david was 6 months) and some dont do it at all (i havent with aadyn &.he is totally healthy). I think its just whatever you're comfortable with, but I dont believe there is any right/wrong way. As I said, ive done it two totally different ways & have 2 healthy lil boys :)

    Once they put things in their mouth I dont think theres much point because the stuff my kid puts in sure aint sterilized lol! :)

    I haven't since the first use. Our pediatrician said it isn't necessary. It works for us.

    I only sterilze maybe once a month. Our pediatrician also said it doesn't need to be done. I wash her bottles in water so hot I have to wear gloves and it still burns. Our dishwasher has a steralize setting but I can stand the water spots when I use the dishwasher on bottles. Lol

    I understand @mom2ing, I meant that it's not necessary. Lol. However, it's not going to hurt anything if you chose to! And yes, I saw it! I don't understand why...the entire point of Jersey Shore is to party and drink and screw. So we will see everyone doing that and Snooki most likely just complaining the entire time. Lmao.

    I have a microwave sterilizer and it's awesome. But honestly, if I didn't have it I probably wouldn't sterilize bottles.

    I sterilized Leo's till he was about 10 months in my electric steam steriliser and he was down to only having one bottle at bedtime then. Then I just used Milton in cold water to sterilise that one till he stopped having it approx 14-15 months. I always used Milton to sterilise his spoons etc. They say at 6 months because they are picking things up off the floor/table and putting them in their mouth, dummy, toys, finger foods etc they aren't always sterilized so their bottles don't need to be. I stuck with it because I liked knowing the stuff he used was all clean!

    @everyone, thanks for the input. I must say I was suprised to hear that so many of you dont sterilise at all, but hey, what works, works. I think i'll keep on for a while yet though, although i agree that once theyre putting things in their mouths its pretty futile. it WILL be lovely not to have to, but for now Im sticking with it

    I only sterilized everything the first time i used the bottles or pacifiers. After that it was just hot soapy water. The nurses at the hospital even said 'what is steril about a baby? Theyre going to stick all sorts of things in their mouths and you cant sterilize the world! " i also heard it breaks down the nipple faster and wears them out
