Stressful MIL

edited March 2012 in Relationships
I have a 6 mo now. My husband and I are trapped renting the downstairs floor of his Mom & Dad's home. My MIL is crazy. The entire family knows it. My husband knows it. But he always defends her bcuz "no one else does". I am currently finding out what we need to do to attempt at a home loan or rent to own so we can get the hell out of her money driven craziness. She goes and spends a lot of time at the casino and loosed A LOT of money. She even lies to us sometimes and says she is "running errands" but goes to the casino instead.

She watches our baby girl, Sophia, when both hubby and I work. I am VERY thankful for that. She is GREAT with her. But I'm stressing out bcuz it seems like whenever any little thing doesn't go her way, she FLIPS OUT. I've been told she was diagnosed as bipolar when my husband was a boy, but she never sought treatment. Hubby says menopause evened her out. But she flips out on us whenever she gets low on money. We are struggling as it is financially. Medical bills have taken over our lives.

Anyhow, short and long of it is... I already know she is going to flip out on us... But any advice on how to break it to her that we are moving out??

Signed,
Practically hopeless... :-(

Be nice about it and Make it sound like it benefits HER. Like "thankyou so much for helping us & giving us a place to stay while we got on our feet but its time we move out & try to make it on our own. But hey, it will give you more space & privacy and some time alone to do things you enjoy (aka gambling lol). It will save you some money from the utiilities we use etc". I dunno exactly what would be best to say but people are always more receptive to change when it somehow benefits them lol Goodluck hun
  • Thanks for the advice! I'm feeling a bit poor me right now... Even tho I know things could be a lot worse... Work all day--stressful. Sophia's head slammed into my cheek bone and I have a partially black eye and my eye is slightly swollen and painful. I don't see my hubby until later tonight for the first time all day... MIL is acting cold and ran off to, I'm sure, the casino so she can freak out on us in a dew days about how she doesn't have enough money... Augh... It just seems to be a poop kind of day.

Only good thing today is Sophia smiling at me and reaching out for me when I came home. Love her so much!

I hope u had better day than me today!
