my dad had a major heart attack...

My dad had a major heart attack yesterday when he was moving. He needed surgery right away. They paced a stent to open up the artery that was 90% clotted. He's still hospitalized and they don't plan on releasing him for a while. I'm so worried about him. He's 58 and he had been smoking non stop since he was 14. I love my dad so much and I'm trying so hard to stay positive but I'm very concerned about him. Anyone experience similar situations, I would just love some reassurance. I'm so sad its really messed me up. And hubby is being an inconsiderate ass! But I don't want to get into all those details. He's just being selfish to say the very least. But he's not my concern right now, I'm just so scared of losing my father! :(

    Well, I was too young to remember it, but my grandfather had a major heart attack and lived for a very long time after that. Your dad is going to have to stop smoking, eat healthy, and start exercising. He had his heart attack in the 80s and passed away October 1, 2010. He would still be alive if he had just taken better care of himself! His heart attack was from smoking as well. Just be there for him and encourage him to change so he can be around for his family for a long time!

    I am so sorry, i just went thru having to call 911 for my dad bc he couldn't breathe. I know its not as servere as your dads situation (he had pulinary ede,a and they said congestive heart failure) but its scary seeing your father in that position. My dad never smoked or drank at all, he just is stubborn and thinks he is as healthy as he was 20 years ago. Praying for you and your dad:-) i know its really hard but hang in there.

    @smocx thank you for sharing, it means a lot. was your grandfather able to quit smoking? I'm very supportive and I'll always be there for him. The problem is he is very stubborn, but I really hope this is a big wake up call for him. He needs to make a lot of life style changes. I pray he can do it and that he'll be ok. Thank you for commenting.
    He does eat healthy already, he's not over weight at all, he never got exercise though, and he is an alcoholic and smoker.

    @sehra4177 thank you for your comment. I'm sorry about your father as well. It is scary, he's too young to die! I really how he can follow the doctors orders and change his life around. He's still in the hospital and he had a spike last night while he was sleeping :(...I'm so scared for him. Prayers are with your father as well, I'm glad he doesn't smoke or drink!
