overweight concerns

edited January 2011 in Pregnant
My husband and I are so excited to finally be pregnant after 5 years of trying, but I have some genuine concerns with adding baby weight on top of my already big body weight. I have had back surgery before on my lower back and I'm nervous about all that weight on my lower back. I've been trying to eat healthier, but does anyone have some healthy eating patterns when pregnant and any safe exercises to do? I'm only 5 weeks along and am scared to miscarry. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)

  • Oh yeah and my boobs are already a triple D and I'm wondering how much they grow??? Whenever I lose weight the boobs are the last to go. I am just so worried about my poor back all around!
  • You could go for walks. Walking is good for pregnant women.
  • @musicmomma - You can look into getting one of those back brace helpers you can use while pregnant. I have read about them. Maybe ask your OB about it and see what they say.
  • I had surgery on my neck about 5 months ago and pregnant now 6 weeks 3 days.....this is my worry too......I was told that swimming is great takes the weight off with out the strain....walking is good too but prolly will make your back ache I know it does mine.....keep your breast supported the best you can and they might grow a nother cup size. Every woman is different. Good luck and be careful on your back.....oh another thing is ride an up right bike they have them with a seat that you sit on like a chair....I got one used from a physical theropy place for cheap...... Hope it all works out.....What type of surgery on back.... I had a anterior cervical Laminectomy and fusion and they want to do that to the lower back as well.....
  • I had part of the disc on my L-5 removed because it was herniated and affected the siatic (sp?) nerve to my left leg. It was awful.
  • To stay in shape I went to library....got a good book and I ride bike in gym....my book is so good I forget I'm riding
