I feel like Im a bad mom :'( Update at bottom

edited May 2012 in Health
Two or three weeks ago my little one had RSV and was hospitalized. Well before last night he started with the same symptoms :'( I've been up all night trying to break his fever. I've alternated ibuprofen and tylenol but it seems that tylenol doesn't help bring his fever down. I gave it to him an hour ago and its still at 102. I feel so sad because I feel that I did something wrong and this is why he's sick again :((

  • No! Babies get sick. If you suspect RSV, take him to the docs. I pray he's ok! Did you try a cool cloth all over his body? Fevers aren't always as bad as people think, it's just his immune system fighting off whatever is making him sick. When it gets super high, usually his lil body needs help fighting the sickies off.
  • @Fate thank you for replying to my post :) I did take him to the Doctor yesterday. But its like he's getting worse. He has a really bad cough, running nose, fever and alot of phlegm. I am putting a cool cloth on him. Fever has gone down to 101.1.
  • Like fate said, your not a bad mommy. Sounds like your doing a great job, hope your little gets better soon!
  • Ur not a bad mom. My daughter was hospitalized half her infant months due to asthma n rsv. This stuff happens. I normally broke my kids fevers by lettin them lay naked w a cold cloth on their neck. The cold cloth won't really do much unless u put it on pressure point. Temples, arm pits, wrists, neck, ect. That always helped me. Just keep ur head up ur doin great. things will get better.
  • Ur doing fine...just a worried mommy
  • Just be careful because it could turn to Bronchiolitis, or Pneumonia.

You're not a bad mommy. If anything, you're a fabulous mommy, because you're worried and concerned. Praying for a speedy recovery!
  • If u feel its getting worse bring him in to see the doctir again. Its always better be over concerned. Ur not a bad mom because ur baby got sick. Kids get sick. :( i hope he gets better soon. Its stressful.
  • Awh, you're not a bad mom, hon. It's not your fault he got sick. I highly doubt you come in from the world with dirty hands and rub them all over your baby. Heh Unfortunately, you saw last time when your baby was hospitalized, there isn't much to do for RSV besides supportive care. Keep him in just a diaper until his fever breaks, suction his nose often (RSV is all about yellow, thick boogers), and don't worry about feeding if his breathing is too fast...get pedialyte in him so he doesn't get dehydrated. If you can't keep up with him at home, there's no shame in taking him back to be hospitalized. Also, once he gets over this bout of it, ask for Synagis before d/c. He may qualify for it after getting it twice so closely together. Hope he feels better soon. :) hugs!
  • Thank you all for replying to my post. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to update before but I wasn't able to log in. I forgot my password :{ Today I remembered :) Ok going back to my update......My baby did have rsv again. He is doing much better now. Tomorrow will be the last day of his antibiotics. Thank you all for all your beautiful words. I did feel like a bad mom because I wasnt able to protect my baby from getting sick again. But thanks to you all now I know that it wasn't my fault is part of his development. :) @RTMommy @bexiewexie @mommyof3girls @LilSugarsMomma @newmomma13 @PregnantELF
