School, work, new baby

edited January 2011 in Pregnant
Before I became pregnant I enrolled in a school to finish my medical assisting degree. The program takes 13 months. After I found out I was pregnant I figured going thru the program wouldn't work since I had no breaks during the year.
I talked to the enrollment director and she let me know I would be granted maternity leave.
I'm excited I can still attend, but I'm afraid it will be too much to handle after my baby arrives 9 months into school.
On the other hand, I could be more than half way thru my degree and it's important to me to do well so my little one has a good life.

Has anyone had a hard time continuing school or work after having the baby? Do you have any advice for my situation?

  • I need a job and im harving a hard time also but hopefully it will get better
  • Hi... I am a mother of 2 and I am expecting#3 in July. I started back to school after my son was born and I chose to do mostly distance learning so that I can continue to work full time and balance it all. I'm not gonna lie and say it's not hard sometimes, but as long as you are organized and determined it can be done.

I had just started school again when I found out I was pregnant. I really wanted to finish my education so that I could give my soon to be born son a decent life. I'm doing distance learning right now and while it's hard and I have to make sure my teachers stay informed, it's one of the best decisions I've made for myself. You have to make sure that you can deal with the stress, but having an education and doing something you love with it will make it worthwhile.
  • I had my daughter right before I started school and i am still in school and expecting my 2nd.... it is hard but well worth it.... keep your eye on the ball.... if you have more questions I can defiantly help....
Ps.... start early don't hold the little one too too much to where it gets use to the attention my daughter loved her swing and bouncer and would stay in it forever.... great time to do homework
  • I am going back to school 6 weeks after #2 is born. I lost my job a month before I got pregnant so I'm not working. Also graduate of ma program right after #1 was born. Thinking of getting phlebotomy certificate so I can make decent $$ in the meantime. Good luck. Best advice is to stay organized and take care of yourself and the baby.
  • You guys are all right, I think that if you put ur mind to it and stay focused on whats important to you then it can be done, just depends on how bad u really want it
