First fever worried!

Daya turned 6 months today and woke up with a fever we took her to the hospital she has no infections and they couldn't find anything wrong other then the fever so there "assuming" its a cold.and I should let it run its course. Wat are some things I can do to make her feel better I hate seeing her like this. She was so happy and started sitting on her owm and now she just all bleh and looks so down I just want to be better please help

    Plain old tylenol and motrin rotating. Lukewarm bath. If she's congested, vicks on the soles of her feet covered with socks.

    Fevers are good :) It means that baby's body is fighting off the infection. Hope she feels better soon!

    do what captivated said.. if she keeps having fevers over a 2-3 day period take her to her doctor to get some amoxicillion (antibiotics) incase it devolops into an infection, it will also stop her cold if she has one.
    My daughter just got out of this.. she was having fevers for a week and she didnt have a cold or infection and the doc said just let it run its coarse and if she still has a fever in a few days she'll take a blood test but she also prescribed her amoxicillion.. btw advil works wonders!

    I don't treat the fever unless it's over 102°. Fevers aren't actually a bad thing like most people think. It's the bodies way of fighting off whatever is going on internally. Giving meds such Motrin or Tylenol are comfort measures. It's really all you can do for them.

    I hope she gets better soon!

    I agree @lilsugarsmomma. It is actually better to wait for medicine under 102 degrees. Medicine isn't necessary for a fever under 102 unless it is a newborn or immunocompromised infant :)

    @mommylovessparkle, it actually isn't necessary. Treating a low grade fever early on with fever reducing meds can actually cause the baby to stay sicker longer as it doesn't allow the baby to adequately fight off the infection, which is the purpose of a fever. If baby is extremely uncomfortable with a low fever under 102, then medication should be used for comfort. Weird, because common belief is that as soon as baby gets fever, give meds!

    @captivated thats true it does fight off infection, but also if the babies fever gets to 104 or over the baby can go into a convoltion (sp?) I rather catch it in time at 100.4 that way if the meds take a while to work they'll be okay because fevers can be very dangerous also.

    I agree, better safe than sorry. When my kids get a fever, I do a tepid bath and keep a close eye while rechecking every 10-15 minutes (paranoid), but if it is in the evening or baby is uncomfortable, I medicate! While I may know what's "most recommended", it doesn't ease my mind at times! Lol. So I don't fault you at all. We have to follow our intuitions. I think those are more accurate than any scientist out there! @mommylovessparkle

    @mommylovessparkle I could be mistaken, but I believe my pediatrician told me once that its a myth that teething will cause a fever. There has to be some sort of infection for there to be a fever

    Let me clarify, that if my child is uncomfortable before 102°, then I'll aid them in becoming comfortable. I follow my intuition, and let my childrens bodies and signs do the talking. But, unless they're under a couple months old, 100.4° isn't even considered a fever. No use in treating a "fever" when it isn't even there, you know? My kids are a little older so I generally won't treat it unless they're uncomfortable, and that usually isn't until it hits about 102°.

    And, the teething thing, I was also told the same thing. I believe it's a myth, but that's just me.

    The teething thing is a myth @davidnaadynsmama. It even says it on the orajel tubes, lol. A fever is caused by an infection of some kind, bacterial or viral.

    @lilsugarsmomma, a fever is 100.4 and above. But that's a very mild fever anyways.

    @captivated thanks for confirming, I thought so. Before I had david 4yrs ago, I always thought that it was true but then his dr told me about it being a myth. Ive never paid attention to the orajel tubes saying that. I just looked at mine but it doesnt say that. It's adult orajel though (for myself, of course) so maybe thats why.
