anyone have a successful castor oil story?

I'm due in 4 days (August 6) and was just wondering if it worked for anyone and if so, how did you make it? I heard 4Oz with oj. Hmm

  • I had 3x 1-2 table spoons throughout the day. Last lot at 7pm. Cramps and diareah (sorry tmi) started at 10.30pm and the pooping lasted 45mins... gave birth at 12.40. I was 41weeks and already 4cm
  • RMAO... I did it. I actually have a hour to hour journal of my experience here on pregly. LOL. It was an interesting experience. It didn't put me into labor but it did get me to 3 cm
  • I did it too took it at about noon cramps and pooping for about an hour took more after 3 hours walk walk walk daughter was born healthy with no complications at 5 am 38+ 3 I was already 2-3 cm and 75% effaced
  • @YNVTish I just read most of both posts. :) Thank you for telling me. Is it a certain castor oil or are they all the same? Might be a stupid question but I haven't ever even seen what it look like or where it'd be in a grocery store. lol This past tuesday, I was almost 2cm and 50% effaced and am 39 weeks 3 days. I've always had a healthy pregnancy with no complications so I'm not worried about trying it. Is there a certain recipe you did for a milkshake and should I put 4 oz? I want to try it today. My next appt is the 7th and his due date is the 6th so I'm trying to have him before that appt. lol :D Sorry for all the questions.

@tinka126 Thanks for the info. I'm willing to go through stuff as long as labor is helped any way possible. If I go to the bathroom all day but results in my bloody show or even a large piece of mucus plug, I'll be happy!!! lol
  • @babyinblack682 Thanks girl!!! :) I'll post when I'm going to take it. Might be painful but I'm excited. lol
  • I did it 2 days after my due date. Was in the bathroom half the night. Started having contractions the next day and had my son via c section 23 hours after getting to the hospital.
  • @sands3 so did it put you into labor and it ended in c-secton or were you scheduled? @mom2ing Ouch! I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. Have any of you ladies heard about horrible risks of taking it other than runs and nausea? Carrie, you're a nurse, aren't you? Do you know if there's horrific risks to the baby? Like death or anything? :/
  • All i can say is... YUCK!!! Good luck if u try it. I tried it. And it didnt work. I wanna puke just thinking of how gross the stuff is.
  • @mommyof3girls Ehh.. :/ See, I've heard almost as equal good stories as bad. Of course all of them involve the bathroom... lol BUT still. :P I just want to make sure I won't hurt Eli in any way. I hear ladies say their doctors recommend it so if they would, then there shouldn't be horrific stuff, right?

  • @homebirthadvocate thank you so much!!! Its simply called cold press castor oil? Do you think the commissary (military grocery store) would have it? And what kind of herbs? Does raspberry leaf tea work, do you know? :-)
  • @mom2ing thank you and I'm glad your daughter is ok. :-)
  • I doubt the commisary would have it.. I dunno about yours but the one on our base kinda sucks when it comes to that type of stuff.
  • Actually, castor oil does not cross the placenta. Has no effect on baby whatsoever. What has the effect is the stomach cramps and diarrhea. That is what "can" stress baby.

If you are not effaced nor dilated to 2-3cm, preferably more, it won't have an effect on baby.

Labor occurs when mom and baby simultaneously release a hormone and that is what stimulates labor. Castor oil cannot fabricate that. If your body is already ready and progressing, it will help. Not before that.

You can go ahead and try, but it won't dilate you are you aren't very favorable for this. What you want is for.baby to apply more presdure to your cervix. walking, birthing ball, etc.
  • No..I want scheduled for a c section with my first. Labor ended in c section because I wouldn't dilate past 6cm, I developed a fever, and my lo had a bowel movement in there. He spend several days stuck in the nursery on antibiotics

  • @homebirthadvocate @captivated thank you. Well his due date Is in 4.days but they said I'd prob be induced at 41 weeks like I was with my daughter if he doesn't come by his due date. What exactly is it called, do you know? Or is there only one kind? :-)
  • @BabyComingSoon143 ... My cousin ordered empty pill capsules and then filled them with the oil. She said you can call a local health store to see if they have them.

She took them by pill and didn't have any bad taste in her mouth
  • @YNVTish why didn't I think of that? That stuff is so nasty, even with orange juice. Lol
  • Here! I took 2 tablespoons and an HR later 2 more after an HR I pumped for 10 walked for 10 for 5 rounds so 1 HR. And after went straight to the birthing center in full labor. Started at 3pm had him at 4 am. I was under supervision of my midwife and already 40w4d and 4cm 70%
  • @sands3 .. my cousin did say when she would burp she could taste it.
