rash

edited August 2012 in Pregnant
My 7 month old has a rash all over his belly. It started sunday when my husband had him shirtless on our carpet with the dog. I figured the dog hair irritated him and gave him a bath. Monday it seemed better but started getting worse tuesday so last night I called the Dr on call and she said moisturize and if there are no other symptoms see if it gets better today and if it doesn't to make an appointment for today well this morning it was practically gone. But tonight while I was at work my husband sent me a picture text and it is the worst it has ever been I told him to call the on call Dr and see what they say. They told him to give him a half teaspoon of Benadryl and to call in the morning for an appointment. Ugh I don't like that the Dr suggested a medicine without seeing him especially a medicine that says it is not recommended for children under two! If I was home I would not have given it to him. And when I got home tonight I went in to check on him and the Benadryl didn't help at all. :( this is my first baby and he has never been sick before so I'm kind of freaking out! At least he is not in pain I just wish I knew what was causing it bc it seems to be coming and going.

The benadryl doesn't really help the rash. Just any associated itching, usually. Maybe try some cortizone on the spots? Have you changed shampoo for your dog or use carpet sprinkle or anything? I used to break out head to toe in hives from shag carpeting. :/ They suck. Hope things get figured out at the doc tmw.
  • He is breathing fine. Its like his whole belly is red, kind of blochy with teeny tiny bumps. You can feel the bumps more than you can see them @bettymomma
  • Thanks @rtmommy we havent changed anything but if it was the dog hair how long do you think it would take to clear up? We have been bathing him every night and ive been keeping off the carpet just in case.
  • Has anything in his diet changed? Or perhaps he's had more Tylenol than usual (if you use it for fever or teething)?

  • I know it looks bad but it doesnt seem to bother him thank god. No antibiotics or new anything :/ I really would hate to give him steroids but not sure what else to do. People that I work with suggest I bring him to the er or urgent care maybe they have seen a rash similar ugh Idk I just hope it doesnt get worse if its a virus or something @mama_kat
