Starting to pack my hospital bag! What are essentials?

edited August 2012 in Third Trimester
I am 35 weeks this week! :) I just keep thinking baby is coming early. My luck I'll be over due lol. But I wanna get my hospital bag pretty much ready. I think I got a good idea on what I need. Is there anything you forgot that you wished you had?

@bexiewexie We have close due dates. Wondering if you have your hospital bag all packed?

  • @Mom2ING what kind of pajamas did you bring? I don't wanna lay around in a hospital gown after labor. I wanna be comfortable. I am going to try and breastfeed so I am trying to figure out what I should bring to wear. Right now I sleep in a big t shirt and underwear lol. Also what do I bring the baby home in??
  • @Mom2ING yeah I think I will need to go check out some new pajamas! I was thinking just a sleeper for her? I live in Washington state so wheather is random here. I don't want her to be too hot or too cold lol.
  • Lots of panties and comffy clothes.. Shampoo soap ect
  • Your own pillow(s) if you're as attached to yours as I am
  • If you are specific about the pads you like, bring your own.
    And plenty of panties.
Change/dollars in case you need to use vending machines.
All chargers for phones, laptops, cameras.

If you are going to breastfeed u should bring a nursing bra, breast pads, and some lansinoh lanolin cream for your nipples. You will definitley needs these! Also bring a few days worth of clothes, I only brought two pairs of pjs n we ended up having to stay for a few extra days because my daughter had jaundice. For pjs I only wore a spaghetti strap(easy for breastfeeding) and pajama pants.
  • Well the hospital pretty much provides you with everything.. Just bring a few baby going home clothes and some stuff for you like bath stuff, a extra pair of comfy clothes for you, slippers non slip if possible. Camera and phone and phone charger (dumb me forgot mine It was unexpected for me to deliver that time.) Snacks if you don't favor hospital food or if you get hungry quick, hospitals deliver food at different times. I always had to wait 45minutes after ordering my hospital food.
  • Oh yeah alot ALOT of underwear, I brought two adult diapers (that's right I don't give a s*** lol) it holds way longer but with pp bleeding you'll need more then that but if you bring adult diapers you'll need less underwear...
  • I agree with what everyone else has said but my one little thing I needed and I recommend is chapstick
  • I got diapers for lo from the hospital but only wipes for me. Also when my "delivery package" ran out of the thick pads and mesh underwear, they said they had no more to give me. So luckily I brought a few pads but they were not as long as I needed. But basically everything for hygiene they give u for u and baby it's just generic brand so up to u. I'm not picky for a couple nights. Oh and bring bobby pins!!! I forgot
  • The only thing I can add to what everyone else said it slippers...hospital floors are nasty, and hair scrunchies if you have long hair....and like Lacy809 said-chapstick! Oh, and some cash for hubs to run to the vending machine :)
  • If u dont want to use adult diapers (which is a GREAT idea) u could always shove a baby diaper down there for a pad. U really dont need to pk a whole lot. I always packed a very special outfit for my girls to wear home. I changed em into a sleeper once we got home and packed away the "special" going home drom the hospital outfit. :)
  • Chapstick, change, camera, clothes, something to such on during labor, um stuff like that. They made me a cool ice pack pad using a baby's diaper :)
  • Those Depends are a life saver but definitely brings some good pads too to be safe.. Who cares if people stare it's for your health & afterbirth ..
  • @everyone thanks. :) I need to hit the store and grab some stuff! So I don't need to bring any diapers? What about a binky? I am going to try and breastfeed while I am there but I plan to breastfeed and pump when and bottle feed after I establish my milk supply. I know there can be "nipple confusion" but I got tomee tipee bottles and pacifiers. I dont want her to have any other kind. Can I just bring a pacifier?
  • No you don't need any diapers the hospital will supply all of that. Yes u can bring her a pacifier, personally I would wait a while to give it to ur LO only because of nipple confusion but that's up to you. Some babies never have problems with nipple confusion, but definitly bring one just in case.
  • All I packed in mine was:
    3 pairs of undies
    2 pairs of socks
An extra outfit for me to go home in
A pair of pjs(I bf and I found it easier to wear a maternity shirt cause it was bigger)
    Phone charger
    Camera and charger
    Tooth brush and paste
    Hair brush and ties
A going home outfit for baby
    A pacifier
Everything else the hospital provided. Our hospital used pampers products.

We use tommie tippie pacifiers and they were too big for her even tho they said 0-6 months. It worked for the hospital but when we got home hubby had to go buy different ones cause she couldn't keep a hold of them.
