tmi baby snot

edited August 2012 in Babies Health
So my daughter has a cold..her snot is clear tho sometimes a cloudy color. It's not bad unless its a green color right like it doesn't mean infection? She has a cough with it too. We got for her 9 month check up next tues, so if its not gone by then ill ask. We just have stuff going on this weekend and will be around other kids and babies, I didn't know if I should cancel and not go because of it. She is also teething and drooling a ton. Could that be the cause of all this also?

  • Bumps for you hun
  • Sounds like she has a cold. Ollie had all that and his dr said it was a cold. He did pass it to all of us here at the house tho.,, so she could be contagious ...
  • Omg sorry didn't mean to repeat what you already knew..trying to pregly and feed Ollie...doesn't work well
  • @aubreysmommy thanks!!
@ashley_smashley that's what I was afraid of:-( I haven't seen those people in a few years so was looking forward to seeing them but I know there will be almost a 2 month old there and def don't want her passing it to him or his big brother. We have a couple more days so if she doesn't show she is better we won't be going. I try and read pregly and feed trixie at the same time too it is very difficult!
  • Well I hope she gets better quick! Could you maybe get her a babysitter just for an hour or two so you can go?
  • Lol sent that before I was done...I was gonna say that you should load up on the vit C don't want to catch what she has!
  • @ashley_smashley eh..I probly could but I wouldn't feel ok having someone else put up with her crankyness, plus everyone would be mad I showed up without her considering she was the reason I was going in the first place since I don't really talk to that side of the family even tho I was looking forward to seeing my aunt and uncle who just had the baby(their really the only ones I was looking forward to seeing). Yea I thought I had some vit c drops around here but hubby must have used them all, I will be getting more tomorrow at the store.

  • I'm sure it's just a virus. I take my kids anywhere unless they are throwing up. I tried to shelter my oldest as much as I could but I quickly realized that you can't protect them from everything. Your kids will catch anything no matter how careful you are. It's like a loosing battle.
  • Yes but there will be a very young infant there. If there is a slight chance that her baby is contagious she she should stay home...I would be upset if someone brought their child around my newborn if said child had a cold.
  • It's a cold, if it was yellow and mucousy then your going to need antibiotics but since it's clear the Dr is just going to say suck it out with the aspirator because there isn't any decongestant meds for babies under the age of 4 years. Sorry if it's hard to read I'm feeding my daughter.
  • @mama_kat there will be an almost 2 month old but everyone else will be fine.
@bertrang14 if its going to affect other people then I stay home instead of compromising anyone else's health.
@ashley_smashley exactly! I wouldn't want someone bringing their sick kid around mine cause then mine could get sick why would I want to deal with that if it could be prevented?
@mommylovessparkle no, it read fine. That's what I was wondering thanks. I guess ill keep doing what I'm doing the hyland's cold tablets seem to be helping which is a plus.
  • Yes it is @mommylovessparkle

@ashley_smashley do you think if she is feeling better and her nose is not running or she is not coughing we just stay away from baby? I mean it may be hard to stay away from his brother but he is 2.5yo so he has a better immune system, plus they are flying all the way up from Florida. I feel I should stay away too since ill have been taking care of her and most likely be carrying any of her symptoms if she is contagious.
  • That's a hard one....If her symptoms had lessened then I would call and ask how that family felt about it. Since they are the ones you are most worried about.

  • @ashley_smashley I texted my mom and told her that beatrix hadn't been feeling well and to let her know we may not be coming tomorrow due to her being sick. I guess ill see how she feels tomorrow and then decide on what is best for everyone.
    @homebirthadvocate thanks I would've worried lol.

Also its just mucous there are no actual boogers idk if that makes a difference or not lol.

  • Ok thanks @mama_kat that is probly what I will do. If she gets too bad we will only go to say hi and then leave.

One is most contagious as they are getting better. Unfortunately with children, you can't cover their coughs and sneezes. My LO got sick on a playdate when the other LO showed no signs of being sick, aside from a clear runny nose. Granted the other LO had a mild cold the week before.

If your LO is coughing and sneezing, I would refrain from going.
  • @mijita I will take it into consideration thanks.
