My poor baby

edited September 2012 in Babies Health
Is sick :( he just has a low fever but he's so sleepy and whiney. He went to sleep without breakfast and that's not like him at all. My nephew just got over something and we saw him Saturday. I'm thinking my sister lied and he wasn't fully better

  • Oh no :-( hope he is better soon x
  • Thanks y'all. He has a fever of 103. I'm about to put him in the bath
  • @captivated @bahamamama4828 at what temp does a baby need to be seen?
  • Is that a rectal temp? If not I would call the doctor my Lo was sick a month ago her under arm temp was 102.9 and I took her to the er her temp was 104.1 rectal. How old is he they hospital to use to give my Lo 1/4 tbl spoon of ib profiene (sp) she was 12 months. They said tylanol doesn't work as good.
  • @second_time_mommy7 yes it was rectal. He's 10 months. I tried a bath but that didn't help. I'm going to take him to the Dr to to see what's going on since my niece has strep. They don't have any open appts so I have to sit there as long as I can. Gotta pick up my oldest at 2:45

  • Your brave mama, I couldn't do a rectal temp to save my life. The nurse at the er was mean to me about it, she was like you have 2 kids get it together (in a mean tone). Have you tried medicine? My Lo had a fever for 4 days and they never could figure out what was wrong... Just told me to keep giving her ibprophene.

@second_time_mommy7 I gave him ibuprofen and his fever has gone down to 101
  • Good I hope it continues to drop! praying he feels better soon!
  • @second_time_mommy7 they are doing a strep test. If it's negative, sending him for bloodwork
  • That's what they did for my daughter... both were negative, $900 later... I was told she had a virus and it would pass. Be very careful with the blood work the hospital we went to did blood work for 1yr old's + but under 12 months the did spinal taps. Luckily my lo was 12 months 1 week. My husband later read once you take them to the hospital and they decide to do a spinal tap there is nothing you can do to stop them. One lady even had her kid taken by cps (for the spinal) she was escorted out of the hospital by police for refusing her child's medical care. The test came back negative and the baby was paralyzed because of it. Idk spinal taps scare the shift out of me. Make sure you find out if it will be blood work or spinal tap before you go. It could just be a virus that will pass like my daughter's, they are going around right now. Your lo in school may have brought something home that you all are amune sp? To but lo was not. Also has he had shots within he last couple weeks? Could be that. How long has he had the fever?
  • @second_time_mommy7 I'll make sure before we go..if we have to do it. He hasn't had any sits since he was 6 months. That's crazy they took her out of the hospital. I think the Dr does it there. She told me to bring him back to her if his fever isn't gone. I'll for sure call in the morning first if he still has the fever. I'm sure it is something simple that will pass.
  • @second_time_mommy7 he's still sick today :(. His fever isn't as high but he didn't sleep at all last night and won't sleep for than 15 mins today. He's been crying non stop and he never cries so I know something is wrong. I'm so stressed out! My husband is out of town for work and my family doesn't live near me. I don't know what to do
  • Is the ibprophene not helping to manage the pain? You can give it to him every 4 hours. Does he have any other virus symptoms? Is he teething? Did the doctor check for ear infection yesterday? Try to just be patient when my lo was sick she just wanted to be held all day it sucks but it will only last a few days. I had to let all the house work go and set my 4 year old in front of the tv with the playstation. Kept him entertained while I was pacing around holding my daughter. Try to hold him and lay down with him when he sleeps, alot of times they just want to feel your presence and hear your heart beat. All Lo's want their mommy when they are sick, its frustrating because you know all the other things that you could be doing but relaxing a bit my benefit you also! Sorry your having to do this alone, most hospitals and doctors offices will just tell you to do what your already doing when they do blood work it takes 72 hours to get the results back and by then they are usually feeling better. Praying for your little guy!
  • @second_time_mommy7 he is teething but it's never been this bad. Medicine not working too well. I've been holding him forever. I have to pee so so bad but he's asleep on me. Lol

Try doing tylanol and ibprophene rotating every 4 hours. He may be building resistance to the ibprophene. When the hospital gave my daughter her first dose (there) they did both same time and told me to rotate after that. Try giving him a rag (dry, wet or cold) to chew on.
  • @second_time_mommy7 thank you! My oldest has never been like this when he's sick
  • Lmao I have no advice on that. I can't hold my pee worth a crap since having kids, I would have probably already pee'd my pants!
  • @second_time_mommy7 I laid him on my bed and went. He's still sleeping so I'm laying with him
  • That's how my daughter was. I thought it was something serious because my son had never had anything like it. The older ones may have just had better immune systems. P.s. don't think about water falls:)
  • @second_time_mommy7 so he woke up fairly happy. I gave him some formula and he started screaming like it hurt him. I tried plain water and he did the same thing. I'm so lost
  • Did they check for an ear infection? That's almost what it sounds like.
  • Try giving him juice. Anything he will take to keep from getting dehydrated will be good.my lo wouldn't hardly drink her bottles as long as he has fluids and has wet diapers he will be fine. Is he still upset? If your not trying to give him the bottle?what were the strep results?
  • @second_time_mommy7 strep results negative, they did check his ears, and he isn't to upset when he's not trying to drink. I just gave.him Tylenol and he screamed about that going down too. On the way to urgent care now
  • Ok please keep me updated! Did you try juice?
  • @second_time_mommy7 @nova so they said it is a virus and we have to let it run it's course. It's causing bumps in his throat that's making him not wasn't to eat or drink cuz they hurt. She told me since he's not eating to only give him Tylenol. His fever is gone so that's good. I gave him cold formula and he's drinking it. He's crawling around now but still won't sleep unless I'm holding him. I usually give him warm tea at night to help him sleep but since his throat hurts, I will probably give it to him cold. He just ate some puffs and I might try to give him something light for dinner that's easy to swallow. I hope it's passing now!
  • Oh wow poor baby. Did they say what kind of virus it may be? I have never heard of a virus causing that. Is if doing good with cold formula so far? Puffs would hurt worse kind of being solid and all. Pudding or jello may soothe his throat, if he is allowed to have them! I hope he feels better soon. When will daddy be home?
  • How is the tylenol working?
  • @second_time_mommy7 she said I could try jello. He did ok with the cold formula but then spit it all back out on me. The Tylenol isn't doing much and he screamed trying to swallow it. Daddy won't be home til 24th :( I seriously need a shower!!
