  • Stay away from tuna and shark...high mercury
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I've been wondering the same thing!! I want to eat sushi so bad but im to scared because idk what kind of fish I can and can't eat.
  • I saw that some larger fish are the ones to be avoided, like swordfish, salmon etc. Also oysters are not ok. This is due to the high mercury content. Do a search on it. I did and that's what I found. Shrimp is good, cod, tilapia..all ok. Tuna is good too, but beware of eating too much albacore tuna. Hope this helps! PS. Its recommended that PG women eat 2 fish servings per week as they are high in omega 3 :D eat uppp! !! Lol
  • What Bout salmon or tilapia????
  • Salmon is pretty good to eat once or twice a week cuz of the omega fatty acids in it that is supposed to help your babies brain development.
  • @Kara_lamek don't eat sushi either!! Has to be 100% cooked :)
  • Thanx ladies this helps me a lot
  • ut oh...tuna salad is bad?! I have ate on everything bagels a few times now...oops
  • Dang!!!!! Ugh lol
  • Tuna is good. Just read the labels. Too much albacore tuna is bad. There's a difference apparently lol
  • WIC includes canned tuna in the checks for prego moms if I remember right.
  • All seafood is ok moderation is the key and raw sushi is not ok bc ur immune system is lowered but in other countries especially japan sushi is still consumned by pregnant women. Only big fish is something to watch out for like shark, tuna, mackerel, swordfish, etc. But six ounces or less once or twice a week is ok
  • My in laws are asian and they said eating sushi is fine. But idk they have iron stomachs. I ate a bunch of sushi before I knew I was pregnant so I hope everything is ok.
  • If you go online & google seafood & pregnancy you will get a break down of how many servings of what types of fish you can eat weekly. Shrimp is ok, so are scallops. King crab is also ok all three are ok for I think 2 6oz servings a week but snow crab & blue crab are higher in mercury content. Sushi is not ok. Eating sushi before you knew, more than likely fine. At that point there was probably zero fetal tissue to worry about. All fish mercury content is different so you should really get the breakdown online or from your Dr.

@kara_lamek I know how you feel. I LOVE sushi. I told my Mom to bring it to the hospital once baby is here. But I was eating sushi before I knew I was pregnant, but they do have cooked sushi, but I don't want to risk it.
  • Its just hard cuz its all I really want. But I know a couple people that ate it their whole pregnancy. If the mercury is too high the fda probably wouldn't allow it on the market. Im gonna ask the dr tomorrow about exactly what I can and can't have. Only because japanese people eat it their whole pregnancy:) Haha I hope it's ok. And mscheyla thank god my hospital is next door to my favorite sushi restaurant!! I don't believe everything on the internet only because there are too many yes' and too many nos'. Thank you though for the information it's appreciated:)
  • @Kara_lamely its not the mercury content in sushi, its that it's raw fish. Cooked 'sushi' is fine :) so eat up! Yum yum
  • The fear with sushi is that its raw. Chance for bacteria to get in. but like you said its eaten all the time in asian culture. Personally think our country gets a lil crazy with the germ phobias. But raw is a lil riskyer. I was also told not to eat yogurt or soft cheese because of the live cultures. Can develop bacteria. I eat it all. The raw foods are also the healthiest. But yes there is a small chance of bad bacteria. I'm not saying go east sushi. Just saying we could end up with bread and water. Just be educated and stay on the safe side. There are lots of sushi our there. Not all raw fish. And I would stay away from the big fish just cuz of the mercury.
  • I ate seafood my whole pregnancy with my last one and shes fine super healthy and super smart...it was also the only thing I craved and could hold down!!! Good luck...
