Why do people say whatever they want?

edited March 2011 in Pregnant
So tired of people calling me fat. My in-laws threw me a shower last weekend but they live about 6 hours away so we spent 4 days with them since we won't be able to travel for a while. I wasn't there for 2 hours and had already been called fat about 10 times. They made me sit in certain chairs at the table so I wouldn't be in the way. My husband's aunt that we stayed with even gave up her king size bed because I would "fit" in her other beds. Her exact words were "I don't need that big bed, and well just look at your fat belly". I really think they didn't see anything wrong with it, especially since it happened the entire time we were there. I called my mom crying while I was there and she was sympathetic but then today she looked at me and said, "are you sure there is only one baby in there?" UGH!!! I lost 20 pounds when I first got pregnant because I was so sick, I am now 35 weeks and just gained those 20 pounds back so I can't be but so "fat"! Sorry for the rant but does anyone else deal with this? People just have no filter when they speak to pregnant women.

  • You are pregnant not fat... remember that:)
  • You aren't fat hun, you are pregnant! My belly looked huge with our first and now again with our second. Everyone that asks, hey is it twins, I say nope what about yours? They instantly shut up. Our first was born late and she was still little so it soesnt mean a big baby either. My mother in law is like that too and she always says well how are you going to lose your weight after? Even though im 28 weeks and I've only gained 5lbs, that's okay to say according to her. I tell her to please stop bringing up my weight because my doctor says I look perfect and I don't need your criticism. :) congrats hun.

I go through the same! Anytime I eat they snicker, and say things like "would it hurt to skip a meal?"....I'm a health nut and my family knows this, I eat no more than normal and I must say I eat healthier than ever!

it pisses me off that ppl could be so insensitive, especially women that has done this! My mother and aunts tells me constant that I'm gonna be a size 20 after....fyi I was a size 6 prior and have only gained 5-8 pounds! Grrrrr... And when I cry they act as if I'm just a horrible person for "ruining the fun".

    You are not alone.
  • That is the bad part, it all comes from women who have been pregnant before. And of course they think it is absurd if you get offended by what they say. Men seem to be much more sensitive. My husband keeps trying to ease the tension when somebody makes a rude comment to me but I don't think he should have to do that, people should know better! I'm pretty sure it has been proven that people just become complete idiots when they are around pregnant ladies. Thanks for the support everyone!!
  • Yea I understand... my husband does this. I eat 6-8 times a day and when's he's home he is like wow do u ever stop eating... I'm pretty sure he's just joking around but it hurty sometimes
