Kids holding your baby

edited March 2011 in Babies
I was wondering how everyone else feels about other kids in the family holding your new born. My husbands family is coming in from out of town and they decided to bring their kids 11 and 13 along with. They are going to be here around my due date and I don't know how I feel about letting little kids hold my newborn baby.

Has anyone else thought about this?

  • they are old enough....just have them wash their hands and sit down if you are not comfortable....
  • @mommyagain Just out of curiousity, why would you say is too young to be holding a new born?
  • Oops meant what would you... not why
  • Toddler age...I think after 5 or 6 they have a better understanding of how delicate they are....but when my youngest was born my oldest was 3 and she held get sister for a few minutes while she say next to me on the couch....but my 11year old is great with newborns &.my 14 year old had even babysat a newborn for a couple hours with no problem....
  • Sorry for the typos...stupid swype on my phone :)
  • Yea they are old enuff. Nd like @Mommyagain said tell them to sit if yu not comfortable tell them to sit. Nd toddlers can hold them sitting nxt to yu on the couch. It will be fine
  • I agree that it should be fine as long as they scrub up :) I plan on letting the twins (8 yrs old) hold their baby sister. But they'll definitely have to be seated for the first few months.
  • Thanx for the input ladies!
  • When I have my baby im letting my 1yr old old 7yr old hold the baby and my 11 yr old is welcome to pick up the baby as she pleases sges great with babies :)
  • My nephew is 10 and is great with babies. He's very gentle and when we asked why he said "it's cause a baby is like a puppy. You can't be mean cause they are too cute." Lol
