waterbirth

edited January 2011 in Pregnant
Anyone have their opinions or is there anyone who's done it? I plan on doing waterbirth at home with a midwife and I've done a lot of research before I decided this was what I wanted to do.

  • Glad someone posted this subject because I realy want one but at the hospital :)
  • I already have a little girl and am trying for my second and would be really interested on hearing ppls stories too because all kid hospitals around me are crap lol!!!!
  • I hear its supposed to be a little easier because you are crouched down and gravity is helping the child come out. Plus the enviroment should be as relaxing as possible and the hot water helps with pain, I plan on doing natural birth
....but im going to take hypnobirth classes which teach you mind over matter with pain.
  • @racelmt I read about that hypnobirth! It sounds amazing, I want to do it!
I also want to have a water birth. I take a bath every night and I feel so wonderful when I get out, because I am sore all day. Its so relaxing :)
  • i also heard waterbirth is amazing would like to give it ago, baby is apparently more relaxed and calm too also prevents you ripping down below :) but i defiently agree with nimms baths are amazing since being pregnant i have lived in my bath im in love with the creator of them but partner has not been to happy with water bill :/ Opps my bad lol.. i have never heard of hypnobirth i was just gonna try the gas & air
  • Also there is a class called the Bradley method that teaches all about natural births
  • I hear it helps with tearing. And what is tha gas and air?? Im really thinking this is the way to go I just wish family and friends were more supportive.
  • I had both my kids natural. I just didn't want to give my baby drugs after being so carefull for 9 mo. I figured women have been doing it for centuries, why can't I? No offence to people who use them. I know it has a time n place. Epidural just wasnt for me. I got in the tub both times. I can't tell you how much it helps. Relaxes and helps the back labor a lot. Eases the contractions. I wanted to give birth in the tub but I couldn't push well, so I stayed in until I was pushing then got out to deliver. I took a class before that taught all kind of pain dealing methods. Breathing, focusing, distractions, how you yourself deals best with pain. Best thing I've ever done. I have so many friends who have gone other routes and had so many issues. Its not the easiest thing, but I am proud to say I got through it fine. And have two very healthy babies. And I went home within 8 hrs with both. No drugs, no need to watch baby for more then 4 hrs. So you can stay if you want or go home.
  • My friend is a midwife who specializes in waterbirths, she is going to deliver mine at home, its apparently more relaxing 4mum baby n dad2, can get in any position n the midwife can't b tempted 2keep prodding n poking u all the time. She also said to use it with hypnobirthing which she says is amazing
  • I would like to try it but I'm scared because my first was prosteria and I was in agony no matter what I did. THey put me in the tub but it was so uncomfortable and when I got out I felt a whole 1% better lol!! I was having contractions in lots of 3's which they found very strange and if I moved at all I'd have another one. So I'm scared to have one at home, or even jst be in the water, incase that happens again and I jst want to go to hospital... has anyone had a water birth that could share there story??
  • My midwife friend said she's delivered lots of ladies who had horrendous 1st births n advised them to use hyponobirth n all of them had a much much nicer n relaxed experience with or without the pool. U can hav a waterbirth at hospital but at home u still get drugs, epidural etc if needed but less stress.
  • None of the hospitals where I live will do waterbirth and I can't afford a midwife. I want to go halfway and try a Leboyer birth. Soft music in the background, dimmed lights, and natural. When baby is born, s/he will be put in a warm bath to soothe the transition. Sounds nice to me :)
  • Fluffy. Where do you live. I am in jacksonville fl and im nervous that I wont be able to get a midwife...I have medicaid right now because I missed the enrollment period at my job and I didn't get approved til month 5 so I don't have a doc or midwife picked out and someone tells me they wont take you if your that far along in your pregnancy.
  • I really want a water birth but the closest place is over an hour away..my tub at home is not big at all..
  • Im getting a kiddy pool to give birth in. Just have to make sure its sterilized well enough.
  • I'm keen on a water birth, but don't know where to find more info? (This is my first). Is it really better for both mum and baby?
  • Just get on google and google water birth and hypnobirthing. You can read a lot of diffrent opinions and info then watch videos of water birth.
  • Its my first too and im scared as he'll of needles so I just cannot...get an epidural. If you do waterbirth you should also try hypnobirth classes...im going to do it natural but im still scared of the intense amount of pain that im supposed to feel according to everyone elses horror stories.
