Tattoos???

edited March 2011 in Pregnant
I've heard that you shouldn't get tattoos while pregnant but no one can give me a real reason why. Can anyone help?

  • You run a larger risk of infection with tattooing while pregnant. And any infection you get you also give to your child. Also, there is always a risk of contracting Hepatitis when getting tattooed.
  • Well aside from risk of infection which if u get it done in a proper facility u should be OK with unless your prone to infection during to compromised immune system... the main risk is that u are carrying another human being in you and while you may not be allergic to ink baby very well may be and allergies to red and blue dyes can be fatal and u cannot avoid these since black has those colors in it too... pregnancy doesn't last forever Its just best to wait. I've got a huge back piece that's been in progress since before my first pregnancy LOL I want it finished but also want my baby healthy. I know personally I almost always run fever after being inked for more than a few hours... its a natural body response to shock and we all know fever can be dangerous to baby.
  • Thankyou. I've never had a straight anwar from anyone before. It's really hard right now for me cuz every time I become prego I start wanting a tattoo so badly I could cry
  • Aside from risk of infection, I've also heard that having that continuous, stinging pain from tattooing could lead to fetal stress and cause preterm contractions/preterm labor (even if u think it doesn't hurt that bad and u can manage the pain well or control it) i know how bad my back piece hurt and if i tried to do that now i would definitley probably start labor n I'm 29 weeks

  • Plus for some reason your skin is more prone to scarring when healing
