how early can u hear heartbeat?

The doc said i wont hear it till ten weeks but i had an ultrasound and we heard it and she said i was 7 weeks 2 days. Is there anyway to really know for sure?

I heard@ 7 wks..but had a vagnial ultrasound sound..

I heard mine at 7 weeks, first through normal ultrasound, and then had a vaginal ultrasound after that.
