ahhhhhh!!! my eyes are swollen shut!!

Ok, so obviously not completely if I'm able to type this, but I can see just a tiny bit. Have had terrible heartburn so I decided to try Tums. Never had them before. I chew it and immediately start sneezing and then go into an asthma attack. Next, I break out in a rash and my throat burns and face swells up. Hubby takes me to hospital. Come to find out Tums has a protein similar to that of shellfish. I'm deathly allergic to shellfish!! Soooo...I wanna warn u guys who have shellfish/iodine allergy DO NOT TAKE TUMS. I've been admitted for 24hr observation and I'm on oxygen, nebulizer, and IV's galore! But had an u/s and baby looks great :)

    @mom60511 lol yea, hubby was on it. I have severe allergies and asthma so he knows the drill. As soon as I started wheezing, he was like "get in the car!!"

    I wheez (im asthmatic too) and get itchy. I've taken it once or twice this time but with my first i was popping them like candy but didnt react. Weird. I think my allergy to shellfish is not as severe as yours. I eat shrimp and all that happens is my lips get itchy.

    I'm allergic to shellfish too... I wonder if I'm not as allergic because I've had tums and have not had a reaction. Does it say anything on the bottle?

    Omg! Well I'm happy to hear you're recovering. I had an asthma attack in the middle of the night about a month ago and hubby didn't know what was going on. He kept asking me what was happening. LoL Like I can really tell you when I can't breathe! Duh...LoL Now he knows what to do. I'm happy yours already knew the drill. Get better soon!

    Thank god your ok! Who knew?! Wonder if they have a warning on the label. If not write them a letter, send them your bill ;)

    @Cynthiay I honestly don't know what the bottle says. I'm still in the hospital, but when I get home I will check. Im sure it doesn't have a warning label, I woulda saw that, but it might list something in the ingredients. Maybe u aren't as sensitive. I mean, I am allergic to LIFE so I have severe reactions. Hubby says he's gonna make me a bubble to live in :) he's so corny 8-|

    Lol. I was looking at the bottle I have... the only thing I can think of, is maybe the calcium may come from shells, like some other supplements. Are you allergic to all shellfish or just crostaishans (spelling?)
    I'm highly allergic to crostaishans(shrimp,lobster,crabs) but can eat clams, oysters..

    My son has severe food allergies too :o(
