Anyone in San Antonio Area...Please Help!!

edited April 2011 in Pregnant
So I just found out my husband is being stationed at Ft. Sam. I'm having anxiety attacks about it! We have a beautiful house in Nashville we have to sell. We have two toddlers and I'm 10 weeks pregnant now. We will have to move in the next 30-60 days and I know nothing, and I mean NOTHING, about San Antonio. I don't know anything about the neighborhoods...schools...Doctors... I'll be about 4 months when we come down there and I really can't handle stress very well as it is. I've googled some stuff but all I get is either really old information or sponsored websites about "things to do". I need some honest advise from people about the area. Please help!!

  • Im here for ya @saysay wht do you need to know? I am a 27 yr old mommy of a 2yr old little boy 29wks prego witb my little girl...im justgright outside of San Antonio and have lived in San Antonio.
  • I live in san Antonio. what do you need help with?
  • Thanks so much for responding @mamamegs and @felicia89 !! For starters...what's it like. I'm originally from New York City and have been in Nashville for the last few years but Texas seems like a world away! Are either of you, or anybody, military in that area? I'm not the army wife who's really involved in the military too much. That's my husband job..not mine, lol. If you know, what's the post like? What neighborhoods are nice for living. Obviously no crime would be nice but we're both pretty educated (I graduate with my Master's on May 7...yippee) so I know we'll be able to afford a nice place but I can't tell much from online. What about hospitals? I'm almost positive I'll have the baby on post (not sure how I feel about that yet either). Somebody mentioned New Braunfels to me but that seems pretty far from Post, how far is the drive? Basically anything you can tell me about, warn me about, or hint to me about the area would be soooo appreciated.
  • I love it here. I live on the north west side and its a new subdivision so they're isn't crime here at least not yet lol but I think they're is crime every where you go. The riverwalk is nice to go and have fun. I'm not military so idk anything about that
  • New braunfels is nice but in certain areas and that's going to be pretty far for your husband. I would seriously consider schertz, tx. I've seen that area and not to impressed :( schools are not that great! I'm just being honest. Its worth the drive if u consider living somewhere a little more up kept. Trust me I tried living on the opposite side of town cause my husband works in the computer industry and the pay was great we rented a nice house in a new subdivision and everything seemed great until our oldest daughter started school. Bullying and horrible curriculum!
  • i lived right on the border of kirby and san antonio a 5 min drive from ft.sam... san antonio is a nice place to live because you can go from country to city in literally 5 minutes... the post is nice going through alot of remodeling and building though... i dont know any thing about schools but jobs are relatively easy to get. not to mention the hospital is hiring janitor's. mew braunfels is a nice drive away from post... good luck...
  • My hubbys staymtioned at Fort Sam and, well its a little post. Nothing special. We bought a house in the Northeast side. If you are looking to buy I can get you the number of our realitor. She was awesome and treated my daughter amazing!! (We had 1 week to find a house before they sent my hubby to school so we were major house jumping and my little one was so bored but Dora brought her toys and books and just kept her involved in everything!!) Schertz and Seguin are nice. I LOVE San Antonio! As soon as we arrived her my hubby and I bought season passes to Sea World and the Zoo. I am a volunteer at the Zoo now and LOVE it!!! There is so much to do out here and everything is about 30 min away from us. If your due after september you will deliver at BAMC (Brooke Army Medical Center) Its a nice place and the labor and delivery will be brand new. I hope you enjoy it here.
