When is the second trimester

I have 3 aps on my phone for pregnancy babycenter, what to expect when pregnant and this app all 3 are very helpful since this is my first. My mom had a miscariage when younger and my aunt had 6 following them some other family members had them. My mom said"make it to second trimester and a miscariage is most likely not to happen". So how many weeks is it? This app says im already in my second the others dont im 12 weeks and nervous. Someone please help please and thanks.

I wish they made it easier for us preggo brains... The doctors say you are x weeks, but then they measure the baby and they come in two weeks behind that, but that is correct for gestational age, but not for the actual length of you pregnancy. It is a cruel joke on preggies to make us math out all the time to figure out where we are... Ok, sorry bout the rant... Especially if I'm the only one who despises this so much!

All the pregnancy books I have and all the midwifes I have spoken to said 12 weeks. I think this is because after 12 weeks the risk of miscarriage significantly drops and it can be that you start feeling a whole lot better. In any event whether it is 12 or 14 weeks, getting past the 12 weeks is really exciting and reassuring. The strange thing is that whether it is 12 or 14 weeks it can't be the same for each trimester.

I don't know whether it is different in different parts of the world, as I'm from the UK that may make a difference.

I did childcare course in college and that said 12 weeks so does midwife and all books i got, but these apps say 14:/ confusing haha

I've now just looked on the national health service and that says 14 weeks. How confusing!

I just divided 40wk pregnancy by three. Came up with 13.333333333333... so its def between 12 and13
