I dont think I'm going to get it. I started reading at two without the help of Your Baby Can Read so I'm faithful that my baby will be fine with daycare, me, and daddy's help.
I just had this conversation in my Psychology class. Actually there are many investigations with the Your Baby Can Read program because of memorization. They say that the babies just memorize the pictures and associate them with the way the word looks. So they may learn a few things through constant memorization but as for actually being able to read people doubt to be true.
Im not sure about it because Ive never used it, Im only preggo with my 1st, but I would do some research before I do by it!
@MunecaLinda Hmm...I never heard about that, but it sounds right. Ive read a lot of about kids and reading and a lot of them just use memorization. That's why they say if you read the same book to your kid every night that eventually they will be able to read the book back to word for word due to memorization. It's good to switch it up. Guess that's a definite negative on the Your Baby Can Read.
My little sister is in her 3rd yr of college majoring in psychology minoring in education. She stated that independent studies showed that this was nothing more that memorization as opposed to learning. Means this child would only know those words in the same setting and used in the same way but will nit be able to independently acknowledge these terms outside of the technique practices. The degree in which the words will be familiar at a later age is no more or less than a parent that interactively reads and works with their child up to grade School age.
NO SHE DOESNT KNOW EVERYTHING BEFORE IM ATTACKED FOR SHARING. I'm just sharing BC I was convinced this was the best thing since sliced bread....lol
@singlemomofsoontobe3 I heard that too. Its great for kids to memorize shapes and colors. Reading is a different story. When they're taught to memorize, it doesn't teach them how to sound out words they dnt know...
I work at a daycare an private school in the preschool for 2 1/2-3 year olds an we had all 15 of our students reading books with 10 words. But they could read you the word off the book, board or on paper. I think they memorize it but it is still learning you memorize things people tell you or sing you. I think its part of the learning process.
