worried about delivering a big baby...advice??

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
This is my first baby and I am really small as it is. My belly at 37 weeks is smaller than average but I'm carrying a big baby almost 9 pounds. I'm really worried about delivering him, especially not knowing what to expect. Does anyone have any advice or delivered big babies themselves???

  • Have you talked to your Dr about this. I'm not trying to scare you but he might say you have to get a c section it all depends if your hips widen. I was scared with my first and that's what he told me. Some ppl I talked rather do a c section I never had one. The biggest baby I had was 7 pounds 14 ozs and I'm 5'3 and barley 100 pounds
  • My doctor went on holidays and I'm not scheduled to see someone until Tuesday.
  • i kno my doc is concerned cuz my pelvis is a lil small he said if the baby gets too big i will have to go c not sure what too big for me is my moms biggest baby was 6 pounds 4 ozs. my bf has a son froma previous relationship and he was 9 pounds 8 ozs so im a lil worried but not gunna stress out im only 18 wks and 6 days so i got some time for now the doc has been keeping a good eye on me. im a lil concerned because i have gained 24 pounds already
  • @rissalee7 don't worry about your weight. I gained more then your suppose to but I'm smaller than average.
  • @declan2011 more concerned on if its mostly baby just hopin to be able to have the baby naturally im totally not worried about losing it cuz my doc already said that if i dont lose it all the most ill keep is 5 pounds
  • I have the same concern when I was 18 weeks I had an ultrasound and the u/s tech said that my son was big but didn't change the due date im due june 23rd and im afraid he is gonna be a big boy!
  • My Dr told me if my baby was over 8lbs I'd have to have a c section cuz I wasn't wide enough to push him out. I was in labor for 23 hours before they did a c section and he was 8lbs 10oz. Talk to your Dr so you don't have to go through what I did.
  • My first baby was 10 lbs. 2 oz and I'm 5' 5" and around 125 lbs. The doctor was surprised after his birth that he was so big, but amazingly I had him naturally. If I would have known he was so big before birth, I don't know what I would've done. He was one week late and I've heard boys are usually bigger than girls. Trust me, if I can have a big baby, you can! Also know that it is difficult for even the doctor to know the exact weight of the baby..my doc thought mine was near 8 a few days before delivery, boy was she wrong! The doc is checking my glucose levels early this time too, if you have gestational diabetes that may also cause big babies. Hope this helps and not hnders your thoughts about it all.
  • My husbands family is very prone to huge babies. I think out of all his siblings the smallest was 9lbs4oz. So im terrified and this is my second and my first was a boy 8lbs5oz. I was 6lbs9oz though. As soon as im in the clearing that our Brileigh will be perfect for delivery imma try everything to naturally induce labor.
  • Ya I'm trying to naturally induce labour right now
