I'm 22 weeks, just moved to NYC from Texas. I WANT a job because I ENJOY being independant. I have been applying for the past week, not expecting a call like right now, lol. But if I do get a call *please* I don't plan on telling them I'm pregnant til I'm FOR SURE hired.

What's your view?

Would you even TRY to get a job halfway through your pregnancy?

Any other views accepted, just no meanies.

  • I would try for a job at 22 weeks, I dont see why not. Some people like keeping busy and working while they are pregnant. I definitely wouldn't tell them I'm pregnant at an interview though. I would wait until I had worked there a little while.

  • I too have been applying my butt off for jobs, and I would say I wasn't going to tell them I was preggo but I'm huge lol but everytime I have turned in an application I've gotten funny looks. Pardon me for wanting to be a good mommy and provide for my child:( that's how they make me feel. I wish I had more options where I live. Good luck with job hunting sweetie:)
  • I dont know about new york but in iowa you have to be employed for a year to get a fmla (up to 12 weeks), however your employer is required to offer all employees up to 6 weeks maternity leave.
  • Oh, and you can't tell I'm pregnant unless you're a super secret spy or something, lol.

I'm not worried if they 'wont want me back'. I haven't worked since December and its killing my pride. I LOVE working.
  • Then good luck and hopefully you find a job soon! Good for you :):)
  • I just hot a job and I'm 24+5 I told them during my interview that I know it may affect my chances but I assure u it will not effect my performance
  • Yeah I started my new job when I was about 14 weeks. As long as you're up to it you should. Now I'm 30 weeks and I wish I would've stayed unemployed lol. And def don't tell them ur preggo til you're on the payroll.
  • I think I MIGHT tell them during the interview. Just so I don't get a real physical job. Thanks Ladies!
  • I would not tell them and they don't have the right under EOC to ask u....tell them once u have gotten in the pay roll system....and I'm going to look for a job mine doesn't have paid leave@oregonmama that happened to my friend but she couldn't prove it to sue
  • I just got a job and I didn't tell them. I was like 18 wks pregnant and couldn't tell and don't plan on telling them unless they ask. good luck
  • I say go for it if you want a job. You aren't required to tell them about your pregnancy. I went to a mandatory unemployment seminar (in MD) when I lost my job a year ago and one of the questions asked was do I need to tell a potential employer of my pregnancy at the interview. The women teaching the class said absolutely do not tell them. You should inform them once your actually hired but never before. Good luck!
  • I could see a temporary position, but I don't think it would be fair to the employer if you plan on quitting right before or after the birth. I'm not sure many employers would allow you to take an unpaid leave so soon. I guess it really depends on who the employer is and what your ultimate plans are. I understand what you mean though, I love getting my own paycheck and not have to depend on my husband which I currently have to do.
  • You don't have to tell them, no, but i would personally want to. It's just, in my opinion, only fair that the employer know the deal. If you don't say anything, it could come across as shady, and you could burn bridges unnecessarily. Just my thoughts though!!
  • You don't have to tell them your prego and they don't have the right to ask! I would wait til your hired and decide then when you want to tell them
  • I would keep trying but not tell them your pregnant.good luck %%-
  • she has almost 4 more months until baby will get here if she isn't early. I am 21 wks not showing at all everyone is different. the job I got I will be on 90 probation then I can get my benefits. probably can't get paid leave but I am ok with that because I don't expect it. at least I know I will have a job to come back to @tiff87124
  • @tiff87124 ok it wasnt a debate I was just stating my opinion. wasnt trying to make u change your mind
  • I am very noticeably NOT showing. I'm still going to apply, I don't care if they HATE me when I would HAVE to leave. Its part of modern society, women, pregnant or not, need income just as much as a man does. I have my boyfriend, but I want my own money. They aren't gunna get mad cauae I'm pregnant, its part of life. I'm not expecting maternity pay at all. And if they don't 'let me come back to work' that's alright, I will move on.
