I'm not dumb. I won't be leaving my husbands dog alone with my baby. And I will be getting one of those nets for the babies crib so my cat can't jump in the crib. B.c. I know he will.
I was almost strangled to death when I was about 4. Our outside dog was on a chain and he wrapped it around me. Luckily my mom, her fiance and my brothers were paying attention. The dog wouldn't let anyone near me to let me go. But they finally got me free.
I agree with ethansmommy122 first off those of you who think it's cause how they are raised you can't be serious. How the hell is that possible somebody please explain. See first off since people are in the business of saying that pets r like humans! Name one human being that does everything right n not wrong at least one time especially bein we know right from wrong #2 aint no way n hell u can call me dumb stupid nor ignorant when it comes down to watchin a child n a animal see first of all the situation some of you guys explain is crazy if I cant trust my dog or cat to not sh%t or piss on my floors wat makes u think he gon listen when it comes to a child if u dont know how a d(gis goin to act y risk it. Oh n we were all there when it happened to my.cousin he was playing the dog was walkin by(not once did they threaten eachother). @MsThompson34, no ma'am they didnt have to alot of people was outside once they seen that my baby cousin didnt have a chance someone snapped the dogs neck. It was very hard to deal with the media n everything it was just to much sad to say the dog afterwards he still had a deathgrip.(uncontrollable tears)
I love my dog. She is my protector and the sweetest belgium shepard alive. If i ask her to give the baby kisses she will go crazy on my tummy! The best thing about her is she is 75% blind so she knows her depndence on us. All she wants to do is love. I have no concerns about her with the baby.
Ppl trear dogs better than humans which is sad..but I doubt the owners are stupid...just like how ppl trust dogs a100% that same dog that u trusted can snap..and here comes oh he was such a good dog never hurt anyone....wen I see dog I go and walk and the other side of the street wen said and done they are animals ans I dnt trust em.
Pits do not have lock jaw, they have extremely strong grip but it is not lock jaw. This has been scientifically proven, pits are just very stubborn which is what they were breed for. They were breed to control Bulls (hence the name) I'm very sorry to anyone who has been hurt by an animal, but this can happen with any animal not just pits. Just because they are stronger doesn't mean they are most aggressive. Just watch your pets around babies, make sure you give them human interaction as they crave this and don't get dogs you plan on leaving outside. They are pack animals and very easily learn that humans are part if their packs. If you leave them chained up outside with no attention they will be deprived of that interaction and become problem dogs. No they aren't humans but they deserve to be raised with compassion and someone who understands the breed they are raising. If you have a stronger breed then you need to take precautions just like with little dogs. Little dogs are usually very aggressive but no one thinks of them as bad because they aren't big, but they actually bite people more often than bigger dogs do. Just because they do less damage when they bite doesn't make it better. People laugh when little dogs are aggressive or territorial and I think that is just as wrong as people who think its funny that big dogs can be like that. Sorry so long but this kind of stuff always leads into how terrible pits are, when aggression is an animal thing. I had a friend who thinks rotts should be banned because she was niped in the face by one, sounds terrible but when this happened she was 6 and put her finger in the dogs butthole. Didn't mean the dog was aggressive, just extremely startled. I would have reacted the same way the dog did if I was him.
I have a GSD, pit, yorkie, and shih tzu. They are all very loving and good with my daughter but I only leave her alone with the smaller 2. They sleep in her room at times. My daughter is going on 7 yo and I have always taught her to discipline them when they act up. They respect her word just as they respect mine. All my dogs know who's pack leader. Now my bigger two I never leave her alone with them. Not for a second. I love them but I know if the snap she has no chance. They are big and very poweful. I love animals and feel they should be treated as family but never trusted. My yorkie snapped at my daughter because she was making him play dree up and doing his hair. She popped his butt in the mouth and we've had no problems since. Not to say we won't but he's 3 lbs and I know she can handle him. We are thinking of rehoming the pit before baby comes because he is very timid and unfortunately many dogs bite out of fear. Even though he's a big punk we can still see the potential for problems. I do believe a lot has to do with how you raise your dog. People complain about how their dogs jump on them and what not. That's a perfect example of a dog that doesn't respect your position. Anyway this discussion can go on forever but truth is pits are one of the best dogs for families with children but tend to be animal aggressive . Read the AKC profile. The problem has a lot do do with poor gene pool, ignorant owners, and jackass breeders. And no pits do NOT have lock jaws. Their jaws are very powerful and their pain tolerance is through the roof. Those two factors combined lead to a dog that can choose to hold on to its prey until the are ready to let go.
I agree as I stated b4 it was a pit who attacked but I also have one n if he gets out of hand one time its a wrap but with the lil girl it wasnt a pit it was a bulldog n I would snap if somsone stuck their finger up my aspects and when I said lock hold meaning we couldn't pry him loose
Lol @zexy4da011 me too! When she explained what she did i was like i would have turned and bit you too! Lol @carley i agree completely if my dog ever aggressively bit anyone I would have him put to sleep tho. Doesn't matter the breed aggression shouldn't be tolerated. Hell i know more aggressive people than dogs
lol u aint never lie hell after that it should b animals thats scared. Im sorry but you just made my day if I been her I would b to embarass to tell anyone that
I would have never explained that part Lol way to embarrassing. And she tells the story when she explains that all rotts should be put to sleep and people look at her like she's nuts! The people that the dog belonged to refused to put her to sleep and she goes on and on about howy those people are terrible and that they should have immediately put her down.... just insane. How you gonna blame the dog for that? Lol
@zexy4da011-eveybody has the right to their own opinions no doubt....so, with that said, I'm sorry that something like that happened in your family....but that still does not alter my decision in trusting my bulldog with my kids...or anyone elses kids...the way I feel about it, is if you are scared of my dog and don't trust him, then I don't trust you, and will ask you to leave...I know my dogs, I know how I raised them, I know their parents and what type of background all of my dogs came from....considering that they all came from family, and I feel very secure in saying I trust my dogs with my kids rather they are alone or not....I also have several people that will back me up in a heart beat and know that their children are safe when they are around my dogs as well....so everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
