trials of being a tattooed mom to be!

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
Hey to everyone out there in baby land! I was just thinking before what peoples thoughts are on tattooed mommas. I've only just become pregnant and I'm wondering what people are going to think when i start getting big! I'm pretty heavily tattooed and only small. I also have either pink or blonde hair, so I'm pretty colorful.. I'm a little bit worried that people are going to treat me different because of that.. and by that I mean, are other moms to be going to look at me and treat me like a 'knocked up junky'. I say this because a friend of mine has way less tattoos than me and her daughters friends aren't allowed over at her house because their parents are worried shes dangerous or a bad influence?

Anyway! Hope to meet some other moms out there who are tattooed or are just different. Peace!

  • Tattoos are tattoos.... I see nothing wrong with it.... I have several myself and know moms with sleeves and back pieces
  • I know how judgemental some ppl can be but as for myself I think you are beautiful and the bigger you get the more beautiful you will be.
  • Some people will always look down on others no matter, if pregnant not pregnant, or tattooed and or not tattooed. This world is filled with people that love to critisize regardless. They have nothing better to do. I have a few tats myself bt the best thing to do will b laughing it off and not letting anyone get to you :D
  • I have my whole back and right upper body covered in tattoos and before I found I was pregnant I started working on my arms. Im not like most moms im actually very different and I also have a 5 year old son and yeah I do get judged sometimes because I am not like all the straight laced suzy home maker moms but to me I could care less of what they think of me all that matters is your true friends. You will find other moms out there that like you for you and will look past your ink and crazy hair.
  • I am a tattooed mama to be.... I have a full sleve and a full sock... I have more on the other arm and leg plus around my head... I have 5 facial peircings and to make it even better... My bf baby daddy is a tattoo artist for a living... (i am also thick) I say to anyone who is going to judge me from the outside to stick it.. I am going to be a great mom! I am already a step mom and have been aroubd this kid since before she was born... I treat her as my own and claim her as mine so having another one is going to be great.. I personally think tattooed mamas are hot! Just make sure you dont hang out at nordstroms ... Lol... trust me hun I dont think it will be a problem...i have had my fair share of colored hair too... Oh yeah I usually tell little kids with preppy parents when they ask about my tats and piercings that I love xmas and easter so I decorate like an xmas tree and color myself like an easter egg... The kids and parents usually like tht.. Good luck
  • I have alot of tattoos and have many friends with babies that are heavily tattooed , most people dont care about this and the ones that do are too ignorant and who cares what they think. I usually get tons of complments about my tattoos, from people I would never think. I guess it also kinda depends where you live.
  • Theres nothing wrong with tattoos I have 5 myself ;) but the most visible one i habe is the one on my neck of my daughters name :D
  • I'm tattooed, pierced, & dye my hair - usually a bright, unnatural red. People are going to make presumptions & judge you, pregnant or not, unfortunately. At least where I come from (small town, Pennsylvania), that has been my constant experience. If they choose to be that kind of person, let them think their small thoughts with their small minds, but stand strong & proud in who YOU are!! You're gonna be a gorgeous, unique momma who will love her baby just as much as someone without the tattoos & bright hair! ;)
I would like to think society, in general, has gotten better at acceptance, but it does seem to be a geographic thing. When I vacationed in Philly, no one paid me any mind. At home, I get the looks & whispers. But I truly don't care. I'm happy being me & living my life for myself. You do the same thing, sweetie! :)
    And congratulations!!
  • @lovethemoon
That is a cute way to put it....

My pin up get me the most questions and looks
  • Thanks... It has seemed to work... I work in a restaurant rght now while I finish school and I constantly get people asking about my tats... Saying they are pretty and asking where I get them done... I also live in california so I guess I am a bit lucky... Just try and keep a smile on your face and if someone does say something just smile and ask them if they are jealous of the art and that you can direct them to the right artist.. :)
  • I will have to remember that....:)
  • I feel way better now knowing there are other hot tattooed mommas out there! :D I live in South Australia.. People here are pretty flexible and don't really mind.. I think I'll be okay! Would be rad if I had a tattooed pregnancy buddy here! When are you ladies due? I'm gonna pop in October!
  • Im due june 7th with another boy.
  • Im due march 7th with my second babygirl :)
  • I'm due July 2nd, but am still waiting to learn the gender. I should know on Feb. 8th! <3
  • thats so exciting! :D
  • May 28th....4th boy :-D
  • This is my first! I cant wait to find out the sex!
  • or at the very least, start to show!
  • im so happy @celestee that we are going to have one of the most adorable kids in our arms in october
  • I think its great! I have a huge thigh piece & am starting on my arm when the baby is born. I love that I'm different & original. I did take out a few of my piercings, only because I was warned by friends that babys tend to tug on them lol. Good luck to you &be yourself! Also I don't know if you're interested, but I've bought a few onesies from a tattoo shop when I was on vacation. I found out its a popular brand & one of the dudes from miami ink designed them. They're adorable! Google it? I can't remember the exact name.
  • @celestee me and my hubby are both tattooed:he has 2 full sleeves plus more and mine is huge, but can be covered. The best thing to do as to not be judged so harshly once your baby hits school is to be very involved and go and participate in all the school functions and activities. That will give you the opp to meet other parents and build relationships. I was always the youngest mom in the last town we lived in. Like 10 yrs younger and I was 26-27. It was hard bc I felt like ppl judged. My daughter had lots of play dates at other houses. And these women got to know me. Its a different stereotype, but it feels the same. I'm 28 w an 8yr old and one on the way. It feels normal to me! Good luck! Hope my insight helps :)
  • I love tats, wish I could continue with mine but I'm preggo. After the baby its more tats for me
  • I want to get my baby's footprint tattooed on the top of my foot!
  • you would be surprised now adays how many mommies have tats and piercings. If people judge you the f'em they are not meant to be in your life and you'd be better off. Never ever judge a book by its cover because you'll miss a great story if you do :)

It's just how people are, they are so close minded. More then likely your son or daughter will be just as colorful and creative as you are (which I think is awesome) so they think there kids will want to try out the styles too. But I think its awesome, I'd use a lot of coco butter on your stomach if you have a lot there too.
  • Be urself. Who cares what anyone else thinks. I'm tattooed pierced and wiccan with a 5 year old and one in the way. I get shit all the time. More so for my religion. But that's another story. Be you. Don't let anyone make you feel bad or treat you bad because you are What they considered "different " I am who I am and no ones opinion matters. Hope for a a healthy pregnancy and baby forbyiu! Lots of love blessed be
