I had the nuchal scan and blood test so far. Nuchal came back fine and no news from bloods which is good news. It's personal preference and I made a decision to not have any further testing even if my results came back high for downs as I would still have and adore my baby anyway. The scan and bloods are non invasive and pose no risk to the baby. It is your choice hun, talk to your midwife/doctor for more info xx
I always say to get nuchal done. I have a little brother who is down syndrome and that is a huge life change. Not so much when they are cute little babies, but when they get older and need you their whole lives. They are special needs children. I think to get the test is to prepare yourself mentally to be the best mom you can. With a young age, yes very slim chance, but if you could do the nuchal, a non invasive test to the baby, that is just peace of mind either way. The doctors told my mom she was too young and refused testing... She would not have aborted, but she would have liked to be prepared. He is 25 now and still lives at home and needs much medical care, but he has been a joy in our lives we would never replace. Just an opinion from someone with downs in the family, either way, it is your baby, love them no matter what!
I had the nuchal ultrasound and the blood work done, everything came back normal. But even if it hadn't it would not have changed anything. I mostly did it because I wanted to see the baby!
I am a mother to a child with down syndrome , I was 25 when I had her. theres really no age at higher risk for having a child with ds, but just for a piece of mind get the nuchal test just so ur prepared just in case. Im at higher risk to hv a another child w ds but my husband and I decided testing w this pregnancy is not an option. I wld actually love to hv another child w ds.
