How far r u from ur birthing center or hospital??

edited April 2011 in Pregnant
I'm looking for a midwife that takes my insurance near where I'm staying for the summer and its been tough the closest one is an hour and a half away. I'm from the city where nothing is more then 15mins away. I'm scared that if I'm in labor I won't make it to the hospital in time. Is there anyone else that has given birth at a hospital that far from them or r planing on doing so?? Please give me peace of mind I'm freaking out a lil.

  • My hospital is an hour and 20 minutes away. My midwife told me when my contractions get to 20 minutes apart to head to the hospital.
  • Havent been far...i live 5 minutes away from my hospital
  • Mine is 10 - 20 depending on traffic
  • By luck we moved to a house that us 3 minutes away from the hospital. But our old home I would have been 1 1/2 hr away
  • I was 20 mins away but due to construction im now 35 mins away w my so I was an hour
  • Was 1 hr 15 min away from mine with my 1st son, my water broke at home.. that was a stressful ride. My water broke at 4 am but I didn't have him until 942 pm so plenty of time!
  • I live 30 minutes away from my hospital. Luckily I'm having a scheduled c-section, and I just better hope my baby girl cooperates until then.
  • I'm about 30 minutes away
  • Yeah, I WAS like 20 minutes away but it ended up taking 45 minutes in traffic at midnight! This time I'm going to the hospital that's only 5 minutes away. I think it's fine as long as you head there a little sooner than they tell you to. And always remember that if it's an emergency, go to the nearest place possible. I had an emergency last year (but didn't realize it) and ended up sitting in 45 minutes of traffic instead of either calling 911 or going to the one that was only 5 minutes away.
  • I was fully dilated when I arrived so I'm not taking any chances this time. Going 5 minutes away and going much much sooner.
  • My hospital is about an hour away, but having 5 kids already and the shortest labor being 8 hrs, I'm not to worried. I made two 4 hr trips last week and just kinda knew it would be ok!
  • 20-30 minutes
  • Thanks ladies I would be 15 away but my bf doesn't want to stay in the city he says if he's paying as much money as he is for a summer house then we'r gonna use it the whole time but I guess since its been done before I can do it. @kello29 I bet, that's y I'm freaking out about most the ride/pain.
  • Mine is 5, 10 at the most :)
  • I just refuse to use a doc unless absolultley neccesary I want a midwife to do my birth
  • I live an hour and fifty mins away from mine this is my second pregnancy same doctor
