May be a stupid question...

This may be a dumb question but do babies breath inside you? Obviously I know they can't breath like normal but I keep seeing my belly where she is at like pulsating

  • No they don't actually breathe since it is the placenta that supplies their oxygen until they come out. Their lungs aren't even fully developed to work on their own until around 37 weeks on average.

No not until birth...their lungs are filled with fluid. Baby get his oxygen supply from umbilical cord.
  • They don't actually breathe no but they sorta do they do the motions like breathe in the amniotic fluid is what an app on my phone said
  • Did y'all know they pee in there too? Yep, right into the same fluid they practice swallowing. Can't be more than a couple drops, but still.
  • They also swallow the vernix stuff that covers them.. Thats what their first poo is made out of..
  • @pebblesmommy my hubby and I joke about that all the time. I looked down at my belly one day and went "why are you swimming in your pee???" And he lost it. You would never know we're 30 huh? :)
  • Really luvbump? I never even thought about what coulda made their first poo. :/ Interesting
  • Lol! Gross! I love weird gross facts like that tho. :P

Swimming in your own pee made me think of goldfish XD

I'm not sure what the books and websites mean by breathing motions, but I'm guessing the baby flexes it's diaphragm to learn to breathe. Your baby could just be wiggling around or maybe its your pulse.
  • They do breathing motions but not actually inhaling
  • Well I will be 37 weeks on Monday so I'm pretty sure she is practicing breathing...I googled it they said she is preparing her lungs for when she is born
