labor and delivery alone?

edited April 2011 in Giving birth
Is it necessary to have someone with you in labor and delivery room? I feel like I have been through this alone and might as well enjoy my birth the same way. Been through labor before and know I will need assistance once the epidural is given. Maybe I am just sour this week but don't really want to be annoyed during labor. Pregnancy hormones...ugh.

  • Im doing it alone also lol..im not scared n y have an audience if they are not aquiring the amount of pain that I will b going through?lol
  • im not sure yet what i am going to do, but going it alone sounds so much more real to me right now. i have dealt with everyones bs my pregnancy i dont want it in the delivery room too!!
  • Oh so true..lol. my dad kept commenting on how big my last contraction was w my son...after my epidural. But I do worry who will hold my legs when I can't feel them anymore...hopefully I can borrow a few nurses...lol
    Is this your first?
  • I went almost alone with my first so this one will be no different.
  • @kcantu2...exactly...it will not only be my last quiet moment for 18 plus years but also my first moment w my daughter. And for some reason everyone thinks bs is a pregos fault..but I am less evil now than before. I just want peace..
  • I wondered if it was necessary to have assistance but seems like I am not alone in this....
  • I wanted to do it alone but due to my inability to stay concious between contractions guess hubby should b there lol
  • @paganmom it was niceee having ppl there with my.daughters birth but I didnt have any down time before push time. And the nurses are in and out to help anyways so... It wouldnt be bad being alone
  • I think you can do whatever you are comfortable with. You can have nurses there to help if you decide you need it.

I am having my husband but don't want anyone else. I love my friends and family but think they would bug me.
  • @bummy87 ahh a hubby can't cut him out of the process. I am alone so I don't hurt anyones feelings..lol
@kcantu...my son was my first so it was nice for me too. But I think your right just the nurses are in and out. Can we cut the cord ourselves then..? I was jealous of my ex when he got to..lol.
  • @saras...I may not have friends when I am done...seems I piss all them off lately...lol
  • yeah that would be heartless of me, I couldnt do that although he did sleep throu6h most of the 2nd one lol

You could hire a labor doula to help u. Women can have babies alone though. I've seen videos (that I wouldn't recommend) where they even catch their own babies. So it is possible.
