breast deflation after breastfeeding?

edited May 2011 in Breastfeeding
Do any of you ladies know how common this is? Did it happen to you? Does it resolve in a couple of months, or is it a permanent cosmetic disadvantage? Do you know of any ways to prevent this outcome?

  • I've been wondering that for a few years..every mom I know says yes(the ones who breastfed)..my mil got a boobjob after her youngest :/
  • That's what I'm nervous about too. I didn't plan to bf my first born so my milk never came in, and my boobs were still looking nice. Now that I'm planning on bf my 2nd, I am not looking forward to sagging. I told my husband if it looks real bad then I'm getting a boob job afterwards.
  • Well let's say I have always had34dd's and while prego they get as big as ddd or g's. They never were perky to my neck but after breast feeding they deflated and aren't as full feeling but same size n droopy. So now my nipples point down n if I could I'd get a lift def!
  • yeah if u bf the baby takes ur boobies away. i bf b4 and lets just say they r not like they used to be
  • @mrs_shu, @jcmommy, @mommyto1soontob2, @MrsMaxwell,

Okay so I have smallish boobs to begin with, they're only a tight a or a mid b depending on the bra I wear. So if they shrink a little that doesn't really bother me much, I've never really had a lot, & the way my husband sees it is I don't have much to lose lol. Well, I googled breast deflation & the images literally looked like what our tummys look like after delivery... they looked like empty bags of skin just hanging off your chest, & that's what I'm scared of. I can handle small boobs, I'm used to it, but with 3kids I don't think a boob job is anywhere in my future. So is this what you have experienced? Do you know how common it is?
  • My boobs didn't deflate after breastfeeding, but they did shrink back down to size. However, my sisters deflated. She was looking into implants and the Dr told her they looked like deflated balloons...how awful would that be to hear. So, I guess it happens to some but not all!
  • @sands3, yeah I could deal with mine shrinking back to size, that wouldn't bother me at all... just the thought of 'deflation' disturbes me... I'm flat chested as it is, I don't need them to be flat & hideous as well. :/ I really wanted to breast feed until I heard this. & I know it seems like such a lame excuse to not do it, but I just am very self concious as it is, & I doubt I'll have the opportunity to get a lift & implants afterwards.

Mine deflated :,( I've told my hubby after I have all the babies I want to get a boob job and a tummy tuck. I miss my prebaby body :(

In the meantime its victoria secrets for me
  • My MIL breast feed her two kids and her boobs actually got bigger. She was a a cup before and after she was done breastfeeding she went to a c cup. Lol :)
  • I have heard wearing a sports bra or good support can help. It depends on your body. That is the down side risk to bf. But there are so many perks
  • When I was pregnant and breastfeeding I always had a bra on! Sports bras are great. Like @mscheyla said, that's the down side, but there's SO many more benefits!

@momma_tiffay I had this happen first hand and it was the WORST THING EVER. I always had 34DD boobs before my first pregnancy. After I had my daughter I breasfed for 5 months, and lost all my baby weight.. and with that LOST ALL MY BOOBS!!!! Went down to BARELY a 32B cup. They seriously looked like golfballs thrown into pantyhose. And I have always had really nice boobs, so it was really terrible. The were covered with stretch marks and just looked like a 90 year old women's boobs. Now I'm pregnant again, and of course my boobs are back and look fantastic, but I'm not looking forward to the aftermath of losing all the weight again after breastfeeding. I think the only thing I can do is get cosmetic surgery after this.
  • I read into the breastfeeding n it said the deflation comes naturally after pregnancy is over not b/c of the breastfeeding itself. Ppl are all different so thats y some ppl still keep the boobs n some dont! Hope this helps. :)
  • my mom lost a cup size but still was normal shaped and such lol. she always got called hot by my friends boys and girls
