Sex & GBS (women who have had it please help)

edited May 2011 in Pregnant
So I came back positive and I was saying to my man that tonight I would like sex and he said well if there is a risk of them infecting her by checking your cervix wouldn't my penis be doing the same thing...so my question is, is it safe for me to have sex and not risk infecting my baby?!

  • WHats gbs
  • I would think that if it's risky to check your cervix then you probably shouldn't be having sex, but idk I don't even knew what gbs is lol. Did your doctor say anything about sex?
  • Group B Strep...I never even thought to ask her about sex! 1 in 4 women carry gbs n can give it to babies during labor if they aren't put on antibiotics 4 hours before delivery its a bacteria and it can even kill the baby if you don't know you have it but most babies will be fine as long as your treated properly...your doctor should check at 35-37 week appointment

It is NOT risky to have sex OR check your cervix when you are GBS+ I can assure you of that. It only posts harm to the baby in labor, after your water has broken. If it was harmful, you would be on pelvic restrictions. Checking at the end of pregnancy isn't needed because it doesn't really tell you when you will go into labor, but not checking you strictly because you are GBS+ is ridiculous hun. @HomeBirthAdvocate am I correct? I had it with my first as well as many women I know and it was never considered any type of threat until you are in labor and then the threats are very low if you are getting your IV antibiotics every 4 hours.
  • theyre prob giving u some kind of pills to get rid of gbs right? u should ask ur dr if u can have sex before gbs clears but umm i wouldnt worry about him giving u an infection as long as his member is clean.. yea u can get an infection from anything but usually ull notice something isnt right down there and u can get antibiotics to get rid of it.. them using instruments to check ur cervix isnt the same thing as ur man's penis... tell him not to be paranoid.. and i think gbs is a bacteria ur body just produces it's not harmful to u just if u have it while the baby is coming out it can pass it on to him.. it has nothing to do with ur man's thingy.. just call to make sure

  • Thank you ladies!
  • I have it....and its fine to have sex....with my first pregnancy when they told me I had it, I was like great now I have some kind of disease....I was embarrassed, and didn't want to have sex.....my husband goes with me on EVERY appointment, so when the doctor told us it was positive, he's the one that asked questions, while I was getting all teary eued....but atleast he didn't have a problem with it.
  • My cousins wife had it and she is the only one I know that did, her daughter (who is perfectly healthy now) had to be in nicu for 7 days I'm not sure if this is why but I'm real nervous about delivery, I just want my little button to be ok I'm her mommy I want to protect her it makes me sad to think I have something that could make her sick...everyone says not to worry but I'm a mom (or soon to be..however you look at it) aren't I suppose to worry?
