sciatic nerve??

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
So for a while now...way before I was preggo I was having occasional problems with my lower back and leg and from what I've read it seems like it could be my sciatic nerve. Well for about a week now everytime I lay down for a few minutes then get up its so bad I can barely walk. Its also both sides now it was just one side and every once in a while before seems like every night now and so bad I can barely make it a few steps to the bathroom...any ideas??

  • Try to stretch if you can. Exercise getting the blood flowing a bit helps. and use a pillow when you sleep. But other then that it stinks but as long as baby is pushin on those nerves you have to deal. I get it really bad in my left leg. I feel like a 90year old lady after I sit too long. Can't even walk at first!! Try not to sit or stand for more then 3-4 hrs at a time. Hard to do. I work on my feel all day and I swear i'm hobling by the end of the day! Good luck !
  • Ouch I have the same problem and it makes me get up really slow n waddle for a couple minutes I usually take a hot shower n kinda let the water hit it but stretching n moving ur plevis back n forth helps
  • I was diagnosed with siatica before i got preggo that could be it i get shootin pains up my legs and sometimes my legs give oit so be careful ask ur doc to check u for it and yoga stretches dont help i suggest askin ur doc for some low mg muscle relaxers they are wonderful
  • Ya its really sharps when I move a certain way it shoots or when I get u and put weight on either leg it starts in my lower back and shoots down my butt into my legs. I am on my feet most of the day at work and my back always hurts so bad towards the end. I'm only 12 weeks so how bad is this going to get?
  • I had it pretty bad with one of my pregnancies. It only got worse the more I walked but went away after he was born. I'm way more active since that pregnancy and didn't have it with my next pregnancies:)
  • I blame myself for it cuz I'm a bit heavy
  • I have the same probably with my sciatic nerve. I take tylenol and lay down. It usually goes away within 20-30 min.
  • I had some problems with my sciatic nerve before I got pregnant, but it wasn't too bad. A few weeks ago it hurt so bad I could NOT walk, at all. We have a shiatsu lumbar massager, and that helped some. But, oddly enough, the simple thickly cushioned foot "massager" (all it did was vibrate) helped soooo much more. Took about 15 minutes and I could barely feel the ache that always follows for hours after the sharp pains episodes. Give it a try. =)
