Newborn jaundice

edited May 2011 in Babies
Hey pregly's I haven't been on in a while since I had my baby, Hope 9 days ago, been very busy with her and my other 1 y.o. Daughter hailey, I took Hope to her first apt tuesday, the doctor hardly looked at her more like he was too busy cause my hubby kept asking him questions after questions, then the doctor left saying he'd see us at the 2 week check up, but her lately my baby is startig to look a lil yellow in her face mainly around her eyes, nosr and chin, my friend brought it up when I saw her the other day, I didn't tell her anything about it before, I'm thinking about asking my doctor for an early appointment come monday. Has anyone else had a baby go throw this?

  • Yea..my dr said have some sunlight ..that should help it go away
  • My bb had a lot of bilirubin, which causes jaundice. It can b dangerous if levels get too high... I would request an early dr appt.
  • Put ur baby in the sunlight and make sure she is getting plenty to eat, bilirubin leaves the body thru the bowels. My daughter has jaundice when she was born. We ended up with her in the nicu at 4 days old and has to have a biliblanket(a lighted blanket) for almost a week. Not a huge deal but I would get to the doctor as soon as u can to get her checked out. If left untreated it can cause damage to the liver.
  • @Beatrice1436 thats what my friend said, but how muvh do you think? I just worry alot.

@pregnantlettemama I'm deff going to, I dont want anything to be wrong withher, shes had.it for about 5 days now, I thoight I was seeing things till my friend mentioned it without me saying anything first
  • @jbandno3 I'm breastfeeding, I think shes geting enoigh, she feeds for about 30 minutes, and then sleeps pretty good, she has about 5 dirty diapers, plus a few wet ones, the closest nicu is over in another state 200 miles away, I will get her checked asap I dont want anything to happen to her liver or anything, it would scare me too much
  • When I went to newborn classes the symptoms yu gave us is jaundice, th rn told us to call th doc immediately.
  • @I_anaya her doc won't be in til tomorrow, I'm going to call him then for sure
  • I would def call your dr and mention it.. It can be very dangerous. My son had jaundice and they had him under a light for over 24hrs and got his levels down but then kept an eye on him for the next couple days
  • @Lauren0204Robert I think I would go crazy if they had to do even that, I'm way too emo right now, even the thought of something being wrong scares me
  • I had jaundice as newborn and I was in incubator type deal for a day and now I'm perfectly healthy.
  • Is her eyes yellow? If she is getting more yellow she needs to be seen ASAP. Jaundice is common but only a little is OK. Is she having plenty of wet diapers? Do some sunlight but only small amounts at a time. If you strip her and hold her in the sun like in the window for five min sessions that can help. Be careful cause the glass can magnify the sun and burn her.
  • @Proudmomma her eyes are very lightly tinted yellow, but its staying that way, I had her in the light in the morning and a lil yesterday, she has about 8 wet diapers including dirty ones,

@bumpgirl thats goof to hear makes me feel a lil better
  • @crazyhmommy he was still in the hospital when they put him under them.. But he was in my room then b4 he'd been in the NICU for 4days so it wasnt as bad for us. But I know what you mean I've been ultra emotional.
  • Good. I mean take her to doc to get it fixed ASAP. But she will be fine...
  • She should be fine, lots of sunlight is good, they have special lamps too, but you need to bring her in..if the doctor doesn't give you an early appointment bring her to the er.....
  • My baby had a bit of jaundice. Have ur dr test the levels if its low like my sons was theyll tell you not to worry. My sons 12 days old. Lol
  • OK good wet diapers are wonderful :) call the Dr just to let them know k.
