We always had q&a at the beginning. Got see common tools used during delivery, delivery video, breathing techniques. A lot of other info. I took classes w/ both my kids and im taking it soon for my third. I think they are very beneficial
We went around 33 weeks, I think. We took the class at the hospital we plan to deliver at, so I found all the procedural stuff and the tour to be of the most interest. I felt like the medical information was somewhat catered to parents who knew nothing about birth and read none of the books. Although, the labor techniques were very cool... and then the post-birth information was interesting too. They also tell you what to consider when packing your bag and shopping for things you'll need when you get home, like witch hazel and lube lol
Witch hazel for hemmeroids... they said to soak cotton balls in it, and put em in the freezer or fridge, then I guess they feel very soothing after birth when ya get home. Clever idea! And the lube... when you're finally ready to have sex again, I guess it's needed... things down there don't go back to completely normal right away. Those were the kind of things I liked most about that class, the things I didn't read in the books, the non-medical stuff.
Oh, they also said to buy a squirt bottle to rinse after you use the bathroom, #1 and #2... helpful things like that... things I would've never thought of!
They were free! I would google your preferred hospital and see if they offer some sort of prepared childbirth class. Ours offered nights and weekends, so we just did one long Sunday class since I work nights and go to school during the day.
