Questions for moms who have had C-section

edited May 2011 in Pregnant
Im most likely going to need to have a planned c-section because of pre-existing medical issues. Im so depressed that I won't be able to have a natural birth and be able to hold my baby the second he/she/ comes into the world.
How long after baby is born do you get to hold him/her?
How bad/long is recovery to be able to leave the house and do everyday tasks?
Im due in july, so im wondering if I will be able to swim in a pool for a while after?
My wedding has been planned for september 24, if I deliver july 22 how wil I feel by the day of my wedding?
Any and all advice appreciated! Thanks ladies!

  • I've had 2 csections and you get to touch ur baby as soon as they clean baby then after the stitch u up u go in recovery n get to hold baby about 30 min to close u up.
Recovery time is not that bad just have to watch lifting heavy stuff. You will enjoy the down time with ur baby. I was moving a month after baby just not picking up heavy boxes and moving slow.
Smimming u will have to ask Dr. Had my babies in Jan and Sept.
By July u will b perfectly fine for ur wedding :) no worries at all!
  • Take it easy during recovery and just enjoy being with baby. :)
  • Get baby center app on ur phone they have videos of it!
  • I was up walikng atound that night..all tje excitment of the new baby...i didnt even use my pain meds. The hardest part was getting out of bed.i have a exersise step thay I put next to bed which made getting in and out.eaiser.
I was able to hold my little girl within minutes of having her. And when I was all stiched up they let me hold her all the way to the room.
It sucks to not be the first to hold them...but once you do you forget about the fact that someone else has...besides they know who mommy is!
  • Everyone is different...
I had a c section and I was strapped to the bed so I couldn't hold him for about an hour...
My recovery was horrible and it hurt so bad..
  • My son had to go straight to the nursery so I didn't get to hold him until late at night after I had him. I was up walking after several hours so I could see him. My recovery was quick and easy. I believe that's because I was up and moving so soon after. As far as swimming, I don't know...I had my son in April.

I just had a c section this past friday due to a large baby. As soon as they pulled her out I saw her. Then after they cleaned her up. After they sewed me up I was wheeled back to my room and after she was weighed (in my room) they let me hold her and begin nursing. So it was about 20-30 minutes from when she left the OR to when I was about to hold her

It takes 4-6 wks to fully heal. So ask your dr on swimming

You should be perfectly fine by your wedding. Its been 6 days since my surgery and im doing so much better I was fine by day 3. I still have some soreness but its very bearable
