attention all pregnant women : Get scanned for VP

edited May 2011 in Health
at the beautiful moment of finding out that im having two beautiful baby girls, I also found out that I have a rare but fatal ( when undetected) delivery complication called Vasa Previa. VP is when the blood vessels from the umbilical cord or placenta cross the cervix underneath the baby. This causes the blood vessel to burst once you go into labor and the baby may bleed to death as a result. The scan can be done by your doctor with a simple color dopilor during 18-20 week ultrasound. If diagnosed, a c-section will be done to ensure the best quality of health for you and your baby. I'm not trying to scare anyone, I just wanted u all to b informed. keep me and my babies in your prayers, thank you!

  • I thought the automatically checked for that at the 20 week u/s....at least my ob did
  • my OB did but only because we couldn't detect the location of the umbilical cord of baby B. when I discussed my situation with my friends that are pregnant they said that their doctor's didn't do it.... idk if it's required or not but I thought it would be helpful to inform others about it
  • Prayers for yu guys
  • Yah thats good...i can't believe they wouldnt take a few min to check them for that. Smh.

Some doctors just want a check. :(
  • @mommyy2be... thank u! I was terrified until I did my research. As long as I have them b4 my water broke, we will be fine. They want me in the hospital at 32 weeks so I feel everything will be ok.... thank u so much though!
@newmommy_navywife.... that's exactly what I said!! I know its a rare condition but u dont know who could have it without looking to b sure... smh. hopefully more doctors look since it is 90% fatal when undetected. Like u said, it's all about $ now so hopefully more women speak out about it so future mommies 2b can educate themselves on it. This is just another reason y I love pregly :)
  • is that when they put color on the screen 2 see where the umbilical cord is???????
  • I am high risk so i get a million ultrasounds and the specialist checks for EVERYTHING
  • @ jellybeans_mommy... yes ma'am! have u had one??
@ steph_due_101611... im happy that they're checking u. That's one least thing to worry about
