Ive heard that too, but its not really good for you in the first place. Its kind of interesting, its used in things like diet soda, but it actually can cause you more weight gain in the long run.
Im not real educated on diabetes, gestational or not. What about things sweetened with honey, is that ok?
Not that a ton of things in the market are sweetened with honey anymore, but maybe if youre making your own sweet treats or shopping at a health food store...
Anything sweetened with natural sugar will raise your blood sugar whether that be cane sugar, corn sugar, glucose, fructose (sugar in fruit), lactose (sugars in milk), honey etc. That is not to say that you can't eat it, its all about moderation. Obviously it is healthy to eat fruits and drink milk while pregnant you just have to be careful when you have any kind of diabetes.
I have had type 1 (insulin dependent or juvenile diabetes) for 18 years (I was 15 when I was diagnosed) and have worn an insulin pump for the last 5 years. I am 18 weeks pregnant with our 3rd. I don't eat stuff with aspartame in it because I don't like the way it tastes. I have never been told to not eat it with pregnancy and I have seen 2 different diabetes educators/nurse practicioners in the past 2 weeks. I would stick with whatever your doc tells you though. Is he a perinatalogist/high risk OB?
Aspartame is common in a lot if diet foods or sodas. One popular thing it's found in is fat free frozen yogurt. I know most of us pregos probably love froze yougrt, so just know it's in there.
