I can tell you that its pretty straight forward. You will be given an IV and a spinal block (which will numb you from the top of your abdomen to your toes). You go to the OR with one family member...bring a camera. They perform the surgery. Baby is out and goes to the nurses to be weighed and cleaned up, then straight to the person you brought with you to the OR. Once you are closed up, you can hold your baby as long as the baby doesn't need to go ti the NICU. If you are breast feeding, try immediately. You will have to remain in bed for a while since you will still be numb, but I can't remember how long. No showering for 24 hours after the section. They will give you pain meds. The first BM afterward was pretty painful for me and I had really bad gas pain for about 2 weeks. I had a very bad burning sensation in my wound for about 3 weeks. I took petcocet for 3 weeks. Are you scheduled for a section?
My daughter was transverse and posterior. They tried to turn her, but couldn't. You could give it a shot and see if they can turn the baby. Just an FYI, it is really unconfortable, so brace yourself. Keep me posted on how things go!
I'm glad you ask that question. My baby girl is breech also and when I went last week to my appt my doctor told me that he was going to check to see if he could turn her, but she is too big. I'm schedule for a c section on Tuesday and would like to know how long would be my stay at the hospital?
I had a c section with my first baby...stayed 3 days after he was born but I was there for 4 days before on bedrest...all I remember is the spinal...didn't hurt...then my arms were strapped to the bed and it freaked me out ...the surgery took about 45 minutes total and then I was back in recovery holding my precious baby boy...the surgery went well but the recovery for me was terrible because i won't take pain meds...
