Do doctors not give ultrasounds anymore...

edited May 2011 in Pregnant
After you find out the gender? I haven't had a ultrasound since 20 weeks and now I'm 29 weeks. My doctor appt is not until another 4 weeks. All the doctor says is I'm healthy and baby is healthy, pee in a cup, and get measured and that's it. I dunno how much my baby weighs? I wish I can see an ultrasound. He kicks and moves a lot but I want to see my baby on screen :/

  • A lot of insurance companies will only pay for 2, so if you want more than that, you'll have to pay out of pocket.

  • Its funny u beat me to this topic cuz I was wondering was anybody else habing this same issue I haven't had an u/s since I found out the sex of my baby either [-X
But I happen to now be 38weeks!! Idk if my baby idms developing ok or nothing and its driving me crazy :O
  • I'm the uk we have 2 scans first one dating second anomally and if we want another we go to a private clinic and pay for one, after 29weeks you can only get a 4D/3D one for about £130
  • I have only had the one for the anatomy at 20 weeks. I mean I got a free one at a clinic when i was around 6 weeks but as for later ultrasounds, medicaid in my state as far as I know from what the doctors told me, they only pay for one, so if i want another one I have to pay for it out of pocket. The exception to this rule is if they think there is a reason for it to be happening. I mean if you need more constant monitoring then yeah youd get more, but if they think your pregnancy is healthy and progressing the way it should then i only get the one :( but each state is different and im beginning to think it could also be up to the doctors as welll

  • Hmm.. yeah its like my doctor appts are so boring. And I spend like 2 seconds with my doctor and she says " See you in 4 weeks" and asks if I have any questions. Ultrasounds are the fun part and I miss them.
  • I had one at 36 weeks but that is because i had had pregnancy complications. @HomeBirthAdvocate: my 36 week ultrasound was right on with my sons weight.
  • @homebirthadvocate
This is exactly what my ob said when I asked to have another US. I only had 1 at 12 weeks to confirm no ntd, and another 3d to make sure at 21weeks. I'm 35 weeks.

  • My insurance only covers up to 3 unless there's complications & my OB/GYN only performs 2 ultrasounds (one at 10 or 11 wks and one at 20 wks).
  • My doctor does them and I have one more left at 32w...I'm almost 25w now
  • My OB usually doesnt do one after the gender unless he feels there needs to. My baby kept measuring 2 wks ahead for like 4 months straight so he gave me another one to see the estimated fetal weight.Which was great since the baby wound up being over 9lbs and I had to get a C section due to a narrow pelvis.
  • After your gender u/s they usually ont give one till around 32 weeks for growth. And then after that they dont give you
  • One unless theyre concerned, says my doctor**
  • My insurance only covers one u/s...I had one done around 26 weeks at an ultrasound school just to see the baby :) because they aren't allowed to tell you anything except to call your doctor if they see something abnormal and the teacher confirms it. I am 7 weeks w/beebee #2 and have already had a vag ultrasound to find the heartbeat at my first appt, but this doc is different than the doc who delivered my first, and this new office does "mini" ultrasounds periodically (especially early) and doesn't charge for them :) loving getting to see beebee grow!
