False Labor?

So my best friend is also pregnant and she is 35 weeks, but today her doctor demanded her to go into the ER because she was having horrible back to back contractions. When they did her pelvic exam she was 3 cm dilated but her contractions slowed down so theyre keeping her the night and may send her home tomorrow. Her face was swollen and in so much pain but she stopped.... false labor? Or could she go into labor any time now?

This is my first pregnancy and hers as well so... Im not too familiar with it. :-?

Depends on if they start back up or not...she is in good hands though!
