Decision on Last Name..

edited May 2011 in Pregnant
So my little pumpkin is due in November and lately the conversation about last names with my boyfriend has come up a lot. I doubt we'd get married so I kind of want my baby to have my last name. He really wants his name to be in it. We could do both but I have a long last name. I'm not sure what to do. My mom told me if I had a custody battle he would have more chances of winning because of the last name just gives him ownership of the baby.

  • If u are going for majority of custody then I say your last name.. cause that would mean baby would grow up around you mainly and if u know your not getting married then definitely . Just cause the man provides the sperm, doesn't give full right to babys last name.. we woman do all the growing, breast feeding, etc. And I feel if u want baby to have your name then u should :)

  • My son is having mine
  • My oldest had my last name. Giving the baby his last name doesn't change what rights bd has either. It's up to you.
  • If his last name is something like gordon or davis you could just use it as a middle name. And thed baby having his last name does not giver increased ownership. He has rights because he's the father that's it. For a guy to win in a custody battle you would have to be a real piece of work mom....the worst that would probably happen is 50/50 custody, which isn't bad. Plus at least he wants to be involved that says a lot right there.
  • im giving my daughter his last name even though we duno if we'll make it together. he will always b there for her.. and my last name wont b the same forever. so id want her to have one of our last names
