I was induced with my daughter..3 times! I failed all three induction and ended up with a c section.
The will give you a time to be at the hospital. Shower and eat before you go. You won't be able to eat while the induction is going on and that can take hours. When you get there, they will start an IV, hook you up to the monitor, talk to you about the plan, check your cervix, maybe strip your membranes, or break your water (depending on how dilated/effaced you are an how aggressive they are being). I was always started at night time with a cervix ripening medication and then pitocin started in the morning. Once on pitocin you can not eat, so if they offer you something just take it even if your not hungry...you'll need all the extra energy you can get. They will increase the dose of pitocin until you start having regular contractions. They will check your cervix through out the process to see how you are progressing. If your water hasn't broken yet or they didn't break it, they may do it once you are progressing more. Once your water is broken, they baby must be delivered in 24 hours. Ask for an epidura, if u want one, as soon as the contractions start becoming too painful...for me, that was when I got to a 3, but pitocin will make ur contractions much stronger, so it may be sooner for you. At this point, either you are progressing slowly, rapidly, or not at all and the next plan will be made. If you are progressing normally, they will let you keep going until you are ready to push, at a 10. If not, they may stop the pitocin and let you have a break and/or throw out the option of c section if your water has broken. If it has and your not progressing, you will need to have a section with in 24 hours of your water breaking. I hope that helped!
