Drinking Milk..

edited May 2011 in Pregnant
I absolutely HATE milk! It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to think of drinking it, the smell makes me cringe and the consistency is disgusting. I know its unhealthy to not drink it and now that I am pregnant with my second child I need to start drinking it again, but I can't seem to force myself. When I was pregnant with my son (who is now 3) I was able to force myself to drink it everyday. But this time I can't I tried a few weeks ago and ended up spitting it out :( So my question is does anyone know of a supplement I can take or something to be equal to me drinking milk without having to do it?

  • Soy milk (silk chocolate is yummy). Yogurt (i put it in smoothies)
  • Not sure of u mean all kinds of milk..try vanilla soy milk its good.
  • I was taking calcium citrate(I believe ) but then I found out my iron was low and I can't take it with my iron pills. But my doctor just said to eat cheese and yogurt and I'll be fine.

  • I don't drink much either but I someone told me a supplement called caltrate. I take that also with my prenatal vitamins
  • yeah, all kinds. When I was little my brother made me chug almost a half gallon of milk (cause he is a bully! lol) and I haven't liked it since! :( I eat cereal dry and everything lol
@blueberrysmom @marysue @FirstTimeMommyToBe thank you!! I wasn't sure if yogurt and cheese would be good enough lol
Oh girl I know you didn't say Ice cream lol I'm going to be eating it for breakfast! hehe jp
  • @excitedforbaby do you need to get a prescription for that or is it something I can get at a drug store?
  • No.u don't need a prescription.its over the counter vitamins @Joaquins_mama
  • No problem Deary. :)
  • I... Drink like a gallon every 3 days.... I LOVEEEE milk
  • @snreda OMG! That makes my stomach so upset just thinking of all that milk! Black. hehe. But go you for being able to keep up on drinking all that milk! Your baby will be super healthy! :D
  • I can't drink regular milk. I have to put chocolate in it.
  • Its 2% so I dont blow up! My kids drink whole milk, between the 3 of us we go thru like 4 gallons a week.......
  • @marysue is right. 1 ounce of cheese = 1 8 ounce glass of milk. also, you can take calcium and iron at the same time, just not the SAME time. 3 hours apart and the calcium will not interfere with the iron absorption. otherwise, none of our prenatal vitamins containing iron would work, with all the calcium they want us to consume!

  • Wow I can't even imagine not drinking milk lol. My sister and I can go through nearly a gallon a day with cereal, drinking, cooking, etc.
You don't HAVE to drink it, you can do any other dairy. Get a good cheese and have cheese and crackers. Make your own fresh Mac and cheese (with different kinds of cheese, and you can add a little milk and you wont taste it)
Make yogurt Smoothies. Or buy frozen yogurt, I don't eat ice cream anymore just that. You can also freeze flavored yogurts (like the individual ones) then throw them in a blender with some fruit for a fruit smoothie.
  • @snreda wheeew that a lot of milk lol My son does enjoy milk which makes me happy, I think I just don't like it because on my experience haha.
  • @Juneduebug @ashes Thanks ladies! I will be sure to start eating more cheese and yogurt. I love the frozen yogurt idea! :)
  • My nurse told me not too worry about drinking milk if I don't like it, as long as your getting enough dairy elsewhere. I eat a lot of cheese, yogurt, and smoothies...yum!
