stretch marks

edited June 2011 in November 2011
I'm due Nov 17th, which makes me 16 weeks and my baby bump is starting to show. I was 222 when I got preggo and I've only gained 5 pounds since then, but it seems like I have at least 1-3 new stretch marks every day... I've been using bio oil, but it isn't helping. Does anyone have any advice or ideas on how to prevent more or at least reduce it... I hope some go away after my little boy is born.=\ anyone else having this problem?

  • My doc told me raw shea butter helps reduce the appearence and onset of them. I used it starting at 8 weeks. Thought I was in the clear. I didn't get them until almost 37 weeks but they are light and under my belly. I would constantly keep your belly moisturized. Hope it works for you.
  • Thank you! I bought palmers cocoa butter yesterday, so I'm hoping it'll help, but ill look for raw shea butter too..
  • Raw Shea butter is 100xs better than cocoa butter!
  • My dr told me scratching makes them worse she said just keep moisturized and don't scratch!!!
  • Where do u get raw shear butter
  • @forevanmyhrt i use palmers cocoa butter and i jus started noticing small very light ones around my belly button at 34 wks they say vitamin e works for them as well i jus started using tht too...
  • Mustela cream you can get it at babysrus as soon as I started getting stretch marks I put that stuff on and they are fading!!!
  • Ive been using shea butter n hasnt helped at all but it is better thn coco..... its 100% natural.... And I just purchased bio oil n use them togethor
  • Geez i itch constantly.. I dont have stretch marks yet but the itching is always on my boobs and belly. At first i thought it was an allergic reaction but i haven't changed anything so i know that's not it. Itching wakes me up during the night and keeps me awake for several hours.. i do keep everything moisturized but i don't know what else to do to make the itching stop!! Waaaah HELP!!!!!!!!
  • Start from the inside out, vitamin c helps the body produce collagen which is necessary for elasticity in skin. When you feel itchy drink a glass of OJ and put some vitamin e oil on! Don't scratch :) drink lots and lots of water, even when you aren't thirsty!
  • Ok great!! Thanks!
  • Well crap. I just bought bio oil. @neek how's the bio oil n Shea Butter combo working? I don't have any yet but know they're coming...
  • U can't prevent stretch marks, only help the apperence of them, its all about genitics. 80% of women get them and 20% don't. My mom never got them threw all 4 of her pregnancies. I'm 2 days shy of 38 weeks, and I have none. And used palmers stretch mark lotion. But its all about genes hun. If ur mom had em u might get them.
  • i didn't realize there was a post on stretch marks already and i just posted one.. o well.. i've been using johnson's baby oil gel every time after i shower and cocoa butter formula which says it smoothes marks and scars.. it's true about it having to do with ur genes too cus my mom didnt have any and i'm not getting them either but don't scratch cus ull make them worse
  • @mzmommy1st that's not always true, my mom didn't get them but I am..
  • @starrxoxo9, my older sister got them bad when she was pregnant, and she used everything to prevent and help the apperance of hers. But it really jus depends on ur skin, I'm one of the lucky ones not to get any.
  • @starrxoxo9 it's still genetics, can come from your dad's side or still be on your mom's side.

The itching is terrible! I got a rash, too. I'm using aveno and cocoa butter. I gave up: I scratch all the time bc I can't stand it!
  • @littlemami, how many times a day do u moisterize ur tummy? I got itching on my boobs sooo freaken bad in the begenning, I wud wake up in my sleep scratching em.
  • I have a ton from my son.. so w.e. else I get this time wont make a difference ... I tried all the lotions and potions too.. some say it might help but really my doc said some just get it and some don't :( ... so either way were screwed lol
  • @littlemami I'm with you, they itch sooo bad I cant help but scratch.

I didnt get em til 35 wks n they keep gettin worse. I've used cocoa butter, shea butter and oil but they still came. No @ 38 wks looks like freddy krugger found his way to my tummy :( I made sure to drink lots of water n oj but no help. Then again I'm only gaining weight in my front. Gah! Anyone know if merderma works?
  • I tried merdema it had helped to fade the old & new stretch marks.
  • @mzmommyfirst it feels like I do it all the time! I even bought a travel size bottle of lotion to carry around in my purse. So, I reapply at work!

The thicker the lotion, the better, I've found. Palmer's has a cocoa butter that comes in a tub that's good. I also use Vaseline cocoa almond oil and pure Vit E oil sometimes. Oh, and Aveeno for itch relief (doesn't help too much though).
