  • Don't feel down :( I had it with my son and have it with this baby too. It's easy to control. You don't have to give up all the foods you love, just a little less of the sweets and carbs. Sometimes its frustrating but you know you're doing it for a good reason :) I have to just test myself 3 times a day and keep track of my levels. It goes away after birth...my son was born perfectly healthy when he was born!
  • Was that ur first gd test? The next should be the 3hr. I passed my second time. It was 4blood draws for me :(
  • What do they do for the glucose test?
  • @novbaby......They give you this really sugary drink then test after an hour, if you don't pass you have to do it again for a 3 hour one. It sucks!
  • Ah crappy!
  • @ehill11009 thanks for ur nice words n happy that it will go away after birth :), how do u test urself
@jaime77 yeah this was my first hope it gets better
@novbaby u kinda fast for 12hrs n then midwife takes blood n give a sugary drink to drink n u wait for two hrs then they take blood again n u get the results next day. Its just to check ur blood sugar levels
  • @lubz I don't have to fast when I take mine.I just can't eat an hour before the test.but I don't have to fast.
  • @lubz...I test with the meter. You prick your finger and the get blood onto a testing strip u put in the meter. More annoying than anything! If that was your first glucose test you could pass the second one! So don't worry :)
  • @excitedforbaby this was my first test I think thats y I had to fast but if I had to keep a check on daily basis I might not fast for that long. Do u do ur daily?
@ehill11009 oh ok so do u mind me asking where u from n did u buy the meter urself or was given by ur hospital coz I am in uk n I dont this do my hospital will give me that I might hv to buy one of my own
  • Nope.ill have my first at 28w @lubz
  • @excitedforbaby :) best of luck dont worry hopefully u'll pass the test
  • I had mine from my first pregnancy but they ordered it for me and I picked it up.at the pharmacy. @lubz
  • I'm from Wisconsin @lubz
  • Good luck @ lubz! I have had type 1 diabetes for over 18 years now and I check my blood sugar between 12-18 times a day (I wear an insulin pump so I don't have to take multiple injections) and it is totally second nature to me. It isn't painful at all, just takes a few seconds. Are you in the US? You can buy a blood glucose meter at most pharmacies, it is the test strips that get to be more expensive without a perscription.
  • @juliek77 I live I uk n I think I might buy one of these machines to test blood sugar :) thanks alot for the encouragement I was so down n sad n been crying it looked like the world ended coz everybody said to me its so bad
@ehill11009 yeah I guess u get it there in ur hospital but I am not sure whether they give those machines for test here in uk or not by the hospital free :)
  • Had appointment at the hospital it was a group session n told us wat to eat n wat not to and got the blood sugar level testing machine n I did my first test there n result was 4.7 without breakfast n hv to do two to night one before the evening meal n second test after an hour of eating meal n have to keep a track so fingers crossed hope al get better wid time n hopefuly wil go away once baby is here :) cheers ladies hv a lovey day
  • @lubz, I know it is alot to deal with especially when you are pregnant and your hormones are raging. Like I said, I have been living with this disease for over 18 years now and it is really second nature to me. I hardly remember before I had diabetes. Just listen to your docs and nurses and keep checking your blood sugar and you should do fine! Just remember the outcome of having a beautiful baby and you won't have to deal with the diabetes stuff after! Good luck!
  • @juliek77 thank u so much for all the kind words n support u hv given it really really made a difference for me I was taking everything so -vely n was so down but I am happy now started walking for almost 40 mins which I wasnt doing at all following the diet given religiously :) fingers crossed everything wil be fine thanks again n very best of luck to u for everything
  • @lubz, your are very welcome. It was really hard going through a new diagnosis when I was 15 so I love to be able to help out people that are going through the same thing or similar in any way I can.
  • I'm going for my first glucose test Monday....so I'm confused do they like draw your blood or do they prick your finger?! I'm so afraid of blood work and needles!
  • What month do they give u the glucose
  • @chels unfortunately they draw blood I myself was scared of needles but they took blood so many times that I am ok wid it now
  • @lubz thanks for the heads up :( ughhhhhhhh I hate it because they can never find my veins and I get stuck with the damn needle like a gazillion times!
  • @mommy2b1111 I guess they give you the test at or around 28 weeks...I will be 28 weeks Friday so that's what I'm thinking I'm not 100% though
  • @mommy2b1111 sorry I didnt get u but i'll try to explain wat I know u can get gestational diabetes during pregnancy usually second trimester or later so just to chk that dr will call u in n ask u not ti eat before the test for certain time period then they take blood n will give u a sugry drink to drink n will take blood again after two hrs n then results will be given then u,ll know whether u pssed or not :) anything not clear plz do ask will try to help coz I hv been helped here alot by lots if great ppl one of them is @juliek77 n I realky thank her from the bottom of my heart
  • @chels yeah I can totally understand when u are scared its hard to find veins, I can just say is relax I know its the hardest thing but hold someones hand n look away n squeeze the hand u hold really hard n that will distract u from the needle :) this is wat I do n u cant believe the person who took my blood got confused or I dont know wat was her prob needle sliped n gave me quite a big scar n blood was running down my arm that freaked me out but I am her :) the best thing u can do for urself is relax :) do let us up to date abt ur results
  • Okay @lubz I will try your advice :)
