To all that might get an epidural

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
I had an epidural the first time and plan on having another one this time but there is one thing everyone should do. Make sure the anesthesiologist wearing gloves and a mask! I am getting my undergrad in hospital administration. There have been far too many cases recently of new mom getting very sick if not worse from the anesthesiologist not taking these required precautions. If they have a slight cold they can breathe the germs directly into a spinal cord. Near where I live there were two cases of spinal meningitis acquired this way. The risk of this happening can be eliminated just by making sure mask and gloves are worn. I made my husband aware of this so he can keep an eye out if I am too distracted by contractions and exhaustion.
I def do not want to scare anyone away from an epidural. I still have every intention of getting one!
