upset over unnecessary u/s that i had to pay for..

I never really post but I'm really upset over this...

My doc told me at my 24 week appt that the 20wk ultrasound showed fluid in my baby's kidney and that it needed to be checked out by u/s asap. So they set me up with a specialist to do the u/s. I went for the u/s yesterday and they made me pay upfront before the service since I wasn't a regular patient (I have insurance but have to pay for 10% of everything) my 10% ended up being over $170. So I got the u/s and at the end the doc reads the chart and says that I didn't really need the u/s that it shows in the chart that there was nothing wrong with baby, but there was a note about my kidney from 20wk u/s - which he said was totally normal. So I left there very upset that I had to pay alot of money for a procedure that I wasn't even necessary. So I called both doc offices and they both said that there was nothing that they could do and that I am out that money. now I am out that money - which to me is alot of money. what would you do??

**ps don't get me wrong - I am happy that there is nothing wrong with her, but I worried unnecessarily about it and had to pay for something that I didn't need! I feel like crying :(

  • Id be pissed too!!! Im so sorry! Thats a pretty jerky move! I had to pay for an anatomy scan out of pocket once, it was only like $280. Just to check kidneys that sounds fishy to me! Im so sorry again!
  • Better safe than sorry! I would b pissed to tho, @ the same time u don't wanna always discuss finances with ur doc then he would prob limit some things
  • Yes I agree I would be upset but more happy that nothing is wrong only cuz you probably healed since the last visit on your own you understand what I'm saying? Plus there is absolutely no limit to wat we as parents would spend to make sure the well being of ourselves and kids are ok and healthy besides that is small compare to the amount we will be spending in the future let alone health wise. Cheer up mommy
  • better safe than sorry...but if THEY posted something in yr file that was nothing 2 worry about, somebody should have gotten penalized 4 not reading properly & misunderstanding...but really, at the end of the day, its better that u actually had one done & they checked up on it (even if u had 2 pay)...now 4sure u know theres nothing wrong...be thankful! :)
  • I agree with the other ladies, no amount of money is worth the well being of my babes. At least you know that baby is healthy, and you now have piece of mind!
